    even if you could find gaskets, they would probably be shrunken and the 1040/50 as well as the 9030/50 series rely on gasket thickness to preload the bearings on all three shafts so another reason not to mess with them. only after dis assembly and thorough cleaning would i use synthetic oil but with that in mind would prefer it over older lubricants too.

      There is a place in Salt Lake Silly south of the Airport that makes custom gaskets. We had them make several different gaskets for the DP-70, and I did inquire about the round Simplex gaskets. They said no problem, and they would make them out of a more durable material than paper. Gaskets can also be made in the shop pretty easily.
