  • Barco32-b service door tamper

Hello. I've got a Barco 32b with a service door tamper event that will not clear. We were initially getting 3 IMB errors with this being one of them, as well as ICP errors. The suggestion was a new ICP and then backplane if that didn't fix the problem. The new ICP fixed the ICP errors and 2 of the 3 IMB errors so we replaced the backplane. The service door tamper remains. The switches have been bypassed and that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

There are 4 switches according to the service manual. Did you find then all?

I'm surprised that you were advised to replace the ICP first, given that (a) it is an order of magnitude more expensive than the backplane (unless the projector is still in warranty, in which case it doesn't matter, as long as Barco is willing to ship you the part), and (b) problems with tamper switches are almost always caused by a switch itself malfunctioning, the seating of its connector to the backplane (the two pin connectors below the light engine fan), or the backplane itself.

The card tamper switches are optical sensors on the backplane, next to the PCI receptacles. The others are above the card cage, operated by the L-shaped cover that seals the compartment in which the cables from the light engine land on the backplane, and on the other side of the projector, operated by the vertical piece of the light engine cover. If you did replace the backplane, the first troubleshooting step I would take would be to ensure that you didn't forget to replace the connections for those tamper switches:

It's easy to do, as they're a bit hidden underneath the fan.

Assuming that those are all OK, I would then check the two physical switches, as so:

It's easy to mis-seat the light engine cover (e.g. if it doesn't slot into one of the studs), with the result that the tamper switch isn't pushed fully down and the tamper then won't clear. I've done it once or twice.

I did indeed find all 4 switches. Speaking with barco directly, these are able to be bypassed for testing by unplugging them. At first it sounded erroneous, but with a tech here we looked at them closely and found them to be wired normally closed, so opening the circuit by unplugging does indeed make sense I suppose. Either way, none of that worked. Multiple reseats of switch wires and manipulating the switches did not resolve our issue. The panels were removed and replaced multiple times, making sure that they were fully seated. With help we were able to locate a used machine and ended up getting back on the screen late Saturday night, and was able to reopen Sunday.
I'd still like to know what the error actually was to maybe get the broken machine working again, either to keep as a spare or sell to recoup some of the cost of the used machine. Really the only thing left to swap is the CCB as all other boards are confirmed working. Not really interested in doing that until the busy time is over though...
