What would ya'll do?

We have two rooms with identical Christie CP2220 units (aside from lensing and IMB/server solutions)...

One theatre is slated for closure and complete rebuild (and new system). Would you move it's CP2220 to a storage location where it can be left on standby power or periodically powered to keep as a parts unit for the other CP2220?

The principle sounds easy, but the logistics is probably that the only place to store it under those maintenance conditions would be the back room of the main booth, which is 6 flights of stairs up from where it is. But if it or it's parts were needed, that is where we would need it.

Or would you "sell" (assuming a buyer) the 2nd system. I've been considering making a case for keeping it somewhere until the main room get's it's own upgrades, especially considering the CP2220 is EOL.

Other factors, we don't really have an active service contract with a cinema tech, it's mostly just us projectionists unless something major fails.

I would keep the 2220 for spare parts for the room I'm using. If the equipment is in good condition, of course. And the ideal would be what you mentioned: keeping it in a place where it can be turned on occasionally to keep its cards working.

Yeah the breaker panel is in that anti-booth, and already has a whip on it (I just need to check if it is correct). The headache is getting it up there, and inevitably getting rid of it when the time comes. That one does not have a rack pedestal, so I'd probably build a little rolling table so it could be shoved around without needing 4 people.

Last time we carried a visiting DCI laser and hushbox upstairs for a premiere we used a helicopter cargo net to give all 10 people a handhold. Worked pretty well, but we have wide staircases.

Same advice, keep it for spare, and power it occasionally. The value for a used one is low, unless you find the right individual willing to pay money.
The moment you need a spare card, you can quickly exchange the other projector, and continue showings. If you are in need for a spare part, the old rule applies.
"Anything in this storage is crap, until somebody wants it. Then, it becomes merchandize, valuable merchandize!" (Not everyone is willing to spare parts for a 5 gal keg of beer.)
