  • imb swap went bad

    Hi all,

I've got a big problem, I've been having a projector that keeps having IMB issues - (kept "losing contact" and projector would need a reboot to fix) So to see if it was the IMB or a back plane issue
I swapped the IMBs with another projector to isolate the problem.
These systems are Christie Solaria one with GDC sr1000 IMB's.

Now this is the sort of thing ive done on NEC's also with gdc imbs (3000) ....with no issues.

However when I first tried the swap, the PIB board is attached to this IMB so I got a serial #'s don't match error - so I swapped the lower PIB board back to what was there but now paired with the new IMB - the error changed but all the serial numbers matched. It asked "where to get the settings from" and I selected "PIB". - and perhaps thats where I messed up.

Now it only projects a bar of yellow on 75% of the screen and 25% green on the bottom.

I then created a backup of all the settings and tried to restore from a previous PIB settings - but there was no change.

Any ideas what I can do ?
A different file to restore ?
Swapping everything back will probably do nothing since I think there is a settings issue .....

Its 3am and I have nobody to call. lol - thats what I get for doing this after hours !!

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks !!!

Update - when swapping to the second projector, again keeping the original PIB board with the swapped IMB - everything worked fine.
I re-married and its good to go. This one did not ask "where to retrieve backup from". And to correct an error in last post I selected "Restore from ICP" on other one.
None of that happened on this projector it just "worked".
The first projector though anytime you just put the bulb on you get yellow and green. I tried restoring the ICP files from a backup that was on the projector (since that seemed to be the start of the issue) - but no difference.

Its so odd - I don't even have to put up the test pattern for the yellow/green to fill the screen - only turn on the bulb. When you do do a test pattern it modifies whats on screen - but still is just colors.

So frustrated - but at least one house is back up !!

I have now tried restoring all files on the Christie from a backup and nothing seems to make a difference. As soon as you put the bulb on - just a green screen.
It seems if I load blue or green test patters, those work - when I hit the red test pattern, it goes green ... not the pure green of the green test pattern but fuzzyish green.
It seems i've lost my red... ?

If anybody has any ideas what caused and how to fix this - please let me know.

      Thanks !

I haven't changed a Christie IMB since Christie IMBs were a thing. So, take what I write with a pinch of salt. I write mostly out of interest and not because I have the solution you are looking for.
The PIB is attached to the faceplate and connected with a harness to the IMB. It is not attached to the IMB and, if your goal was to swap IMBs, it would be good practice to do the legwork and swap only the IMBs.
From what you write, all IMBs involved are working O.K. on one of the projectors. So, what rests is where your problem is.
Did you try to connect to the ICP with the Texas Instruments' ICP and Enigma Control Program?
Did you get any log files to check brute-force or with the Solaria Interrogator Viewer?
Did you try to investigate failing connections or/and batteries?
What is the state of the environmental board?
Did you manage to do marriage, or not?
If not, can you connect (individually) to the IMB?
On a bigger brother of Solaria One, I remember breaking my head over an image issue, when I found out that the LEQD needed a re-sitting (for some mysterious reason).

The logs and the faceplate LEDs (that I think differ from the ones used with the Christie IMB) could be a lead. (How is the FIPS one?)

There are so many variables that may play a role in your case, other than restoring a back up. Did the back up restore successfully, even?
The ICP files might be helpful but would not restore a bad connection the the light engine, for instance.

So, maybe checking the above would give you a lead about where to go from there.
And the one thing that was not mentioned and should have been from the beginning: You have a "black screen", what does Christie support says? (https://www.christiedigital.com/help...nical-support/)

You give a lot of good possibilities, I did get a hold of Christie tech support and they seem to think its most likely a loose cable or connection. Since all the files were restored from a reliable backup they don't think that's the issue.
Color wheel and light engine issues they said could be a problem but that that would not happen from changing boards - I'm remotely trying to help this location (im FL, they are CA) so as soon as they have a chance i'm going to have them pull everything and reseat/check all ribbons etc - and then i'll hope for the best !!

          Thanks !
