  • server Sony autostart

    Good evening everyone,
    thanks for accepting me!
    I'm Simon and I'm a system integrator
A piece of info maybe you've already used it.
    I have a Sony Xct-s10 server mounted under a 515, I need it to
start automatically when the power supply arrives, maybe something can be done in some settings. Otherwise I'll have to find a mechanical workaround on the button!

did you have a chance to do something in the bios?

    Thanks for your availability

I found an old similar thread where Sony had reported that WOL (Wake On Lan) is not supported on the S10:
    https://www.film-tech.com/ubb/f16/t002039.html

I assume you are needing to turn it on from cold, and not just tell it to turn on in the event of power loss and restoration (which probably IS a bios option). Though if you have network controllable power that combo can be made to do it.

I am not an integrator, but if more "proper" approaches are not found, I would be tempted to try something like one of the various 24/7 visibility products like NanoKVM that lets you interact with things like power and reset buttons, it could probably expose those to some other scripting/automation on the network.

    Level1Tech's review of NanoKVM (3 form-factors).

    SiSpeed NanoKVM

There are other similar options it out there too... even just a raspberrry pi could be made to do similar functions provided it is left on.

See also PiKVM (that idea taken to market)

I've been working with some Sony XCT S-10 servers for several years. I'm not aware
of any option for then to have them auto-start from a full shutdown mode. We always
had our units go into "standby" mode at the end of the day, so that our TMS and
library server could send content to them at any time, or we could access them
remotely 24/7 for maintenance or troubleshooting purposes. We did have them on
a UPS, which protected them from short power outages, but I don't know of any way
of having them auto-boot after a full shutdown. (Now that SONY is phasing out their
commercial digital cinema products, we are currently phasing them out. We've
already upgraded one auditorium, and the rest are expected to be done by summer
      )

I don't know if this would work, or even if it's wise to try, but I have an electric fan
at home which I wanted to control remotely, using a 'smart outlet' type of system, but
the fan had a momentary 'push button' power switch to turn it on and off. After playing
around with it a little bit, I discovered that the way their power switch worked, was that
it sent out a single "ON" pulse- no matter how long you held the power button down.
So I simply taped the power button down, and now I can power the fan on & off remotely,
and it's been working this way for over 3 years.

      > I'm not suggesting you actually do this with a Sony server, so if you try, it's at your
own risk. I'm just passing along an idea that worked for me on a home appliance.
