  • New DCP title types for HDR may not run on your server are now on DCDC

    Heads up. It would appear that Dolby Vision content is now showing up on DCDC. The first we encountered was Freakier Friday. The naming is part of version of 9.7 and 9.8.0. If you see "Dvis" in the DCP name and it isn't for your Dolby Vision system, don't bother ingesting. You'll get an unplayable DCP.

    Where this one bit a client was that they were homing in on the IAB portion of the naming for their Atmos auditorium; they were not looking for (and didn't know) about "DVis" as a potential non-playable.

    Interesting. We've got the only BARCO HDR-LS4K projector in Northern CA.
    ( A newspaper reporter told me last week that there are only 7 of them in the
    entire USA right now, but I haven't personally verified that
    . ) Of course I can
    ingest HDR & non-HDR content into the LS-4K because it plays both types, but
    I haven't tried ingesting HDR content into any of our old Sony servers & projectors
    we still have to see if they 'gag' on it. I have some unencrypted HDR content and
    maybe I'll try ingesting into a non-hdr system just to see what happens.
    ( All of our auditoriums got new screens in January, and our 4 remaining
    SONY servers & projectors will be replaced 'by summer' with new BARCO
    laser projectors, although not HDR type
    )

    The CPL's for Barco HDR content currently look like this;
    MinecraftMovie_FTR-2-BarcoHDR_F_EN-XX-CCAP_OV_71-Atmos, (etc)

      Wondering what makes such a DCP unplayable on standard systems? Or is it just the missing KDM? Why would a system without HDR capability receive a KDM for such a CPL at all?

        I'm going to try ingesting & playing an HDR trailer on another system to see what happens.
        When I was testing the new HDR projector, I accidentally played some standard content
        while the projector was in the HDR mode, and the effect on screen was similar to what
        happens if you play 2-D content with 3D enabled, or sometimes vice-versa. The colors
        were all exaggerated & really weird, and the luminance values were waaaaaay off,
        which made the image pretty much unwatchable.

        >> EDIT / UPDATE: I had some time between shows to try ingesting a couple of non
        encrypted HDR trailers onto a standard def projector. (Sony SRX-515)
        > The content ingested no problem and were marked "playable" on the Sony
        server's status screen.
        > On screen, the colors were a lot less saturated, and the picture had a 'low
        contrast' look- - sort of like if you had the 'gamma' control turned down a bit
        on a professional broadcast monitor. I'm guessing that the colors were also
        slightly different hues or color temperatures, since the HDR color is balanced
        for lasers, and those Sony use mercury discharge lamps The picture was
        "watchable", but IMO definitely not acceptable if you were going to charge
        people admission to watch it. Some people (like my dad, who was badly
        color blind) probably wouldn't notice.

          I’ve only witnessed the 2nd version Jim describes, a Dolby tech here threw a 7.1 HDR trailer on our doremi 2K4 system for listening only. Played fine (with the contrast difference Jim describes). But maybe the new containers or naming break that?

          I’ll have to look if it was marked Dvis vs HDR1 etc.

            These are the ones that caused me to start this thread. The problem showed itself on the IMS3000:
