  • Phoenician Phun

I've been up to my ears the past several weeks with advance previews and premieres here. In
addition to hosting directors and stars who come to do intros and/or Q and A's , sometimes one
of the studio promo departments takes over our entire lobby area to promote a new film, as
was done recently for the new Mission Impossible flick. (when Tom Cruise dropped in here
    to say a few words
.) No sooner had we gotten rid of the Mission Impossible paraphernalia,
we hosted a big press/preview party for a number of press and "social media influences" to
promote "The Phoenician Scheme". Here are a few pix I took when they were setting things up,
which took almost 2 full days. I was embargoed from sharing them until the event was over.

Guests entering the theater walked between two huge standee displays

These standees were 30ft long and 12ft high. A lot of selfies & other photos were taken here.

They studiostuff took up two floors here.

Some of the props and items from the movie were on display.

There were several re-creations of set pieces from the movie- for people to take photos in

This mock up of the rear end of an old passenger train was another popular photo background spot

After the semi-private press wine & cheese party premiere, this stuff is going to remain
on display for the next week or two, during our Phoenician Scheme engagement.

One of the reasons we're able to host big events like this is that this place is HUGE.
Our main entrance lobby is over 200ft long, and occupies the whole width of a city block.

(For the Mission Impossible event, the event organizers hired a string quartet to play on the
landing at the top of the stairs. We've also had lobby events with a DJ up there or in the bar.)
This pic doesn't even show the whole area- - there's at least another 50ft or more behind me.

    "Fun"

I consider myself fortunate that our lobby is not quite expansive enough for such things. We have one area between the two auditorium doors for small pop-up type decorations. Had Han Solo in carbonite there recently, a beach diorama complete with shark, among other amusements our FOH team throws together. Most of our premieres are in and out type affairs... red carpet and step and repeats outside, but nothing too crazy in the small-ish lobby.

That is quite the lobby. It appears larger definately linger than the lobby at the Chicago Theater...

        More Phonecian Phun
VIP guests at this event got some studio swag, like this AIR KORDA bag
        PhoenicianBag.jpg

With a nice luggage tag. (There were some extra bags & tags left over after the event,
and the studio rep gave me one of each. They had T-shirts but not in the size I needed)

"Michael" got tired of posing for pictures with customers and hung out in the booth for awhile

Though we can't talk, we soon have to find room for these 10 new FT 8in core 70mm house reels that just arrived. Our 5in core goldberg ones are not long for this world and can live outside the booth now.
