    I wonder if the studio cards are bigger than 4:3. The note reads like masking to the film is not even expected/intended.

      Tested the film this morning. The opening logos are in 1.33, as is the rest of the film. My guess is that either the note is intended for theaters that can only do standard flat or scope masking and not any special flats or scopes, or it's to accommodate the PG-13 rating tag, which is standard flat and overshoots if you try to project it with 1.33 masking.

        Yeah I'd guess they packaged it for common width flat screens, the note makes sense in that context. If I was showing this I'd mask it to 1.33 and crop the rating card (or skip it). If any card deserves to be butchered the rating card is easily the most deserving candidate. But easy for me to say having a 1.33 preset and 3 movable sides of masking.
