  • Regal Emerges From Bankruptcy

At least now they only have 1.31 billion in debt....

It's too bad they couldn't save our theater, or the other two that closed between COVID and bankruptcy proceedings. Losing 40 something screens in Rochester has been really, really bad for the diversity of films playing in the area.

Shoot. I now work at a 13 screen theater right now and we've basically got nothing that isn't big budget hollywood productions, some of which are over a month old! There's no room to play any lower budget, foreign, or indie movies at a scale like ours. Having 18 screens at our last theater was amazing. I guess that's just the way things go.

With the strike going on...the low-budget indy movies may be all there will be in the not too distant future. The pipeline is emptying of the big-budget movies (which are not always winners, as this summer has shown.
