  • How much is wine at a theatre?

Just curious, how much is a glass of wine at a movie theatre? Thanks, Mike

If it's anything like some of the beer prices I've seen at certain theaters, probably way too much. It all comes down the theater chain and specific locations. I would plan on $10 or more per glass bare minimum.

We charge $7 a glass. It should probably be more. Rule of thumb we were told when we started selling wine is: The First Pour Should Pay for the Bottle (wholesale, of course).

Both interesting responses. $7.00 - $10.00 seems inexpensive given the cost of soda at a cinema.

Keep in mind that an average glass of wine is just 5 fl oz or about 150 ml, that's a whole lot less than even a small soda according to today's standards.
Martin's Rule of Thumb seems to be pretty reasonable, especially if you don't sell a lot of wine.

Keep in mind that wine stains are a whole lot harder to remove than almost anything else that usually stains your seats and floors...

Lately I've been doing some work at one of San Francisco's most popular movie/dining venues- - A glass of wine there is
$7, and mixed drinks range from $12-15. of course, that's the 'list price' - it is expected that you tip the servers & food-runners.
(And they deserve it - - those kids work pretty hard)

Resolve stain remover is the real thing for getting wine stains out of just about anything. It comes in both carpet cleaner and laundry cleaner versions and both of them work like nobody's business.

My mother, long ago, worked for a veterinary supply company and they sold an oxygenated carpet-spot cleaner spray called "Equalizer" made by Vetoquinol. It comes in big 24-ounce hairspray cans. The stuff was designed to clean dog crap and puke stains out of carpet and upholstry. Basically you spray on an amount that completely covers the stain, it fizzes and foams for a few seconds while the stain dissolves, then come back about 20 minutes later and wipe it up with a towel.

It was THE carpet cleaner when we had a dog and he'd get sick (a Saint Bernard with a sometimes very cranky stomach, the poor thing) and couldn't get outside fast enough to avoid dumping an entire Beethoven-sized load on the rug. Woof. Well, dad was also a drinker and would occasionally ingest more wine than he probably should have and would invariably spill a glass or four, especially on nights when mom had to take the bottle away and hide it. That stuff was magic on plush off-white carpet versus red wine. If you can find some (it's on Amazon, but you can probably get it elsewhere for way cheaper) it would absolutely be worth getting a few cans and keeping on hand if you intend to serve wine in your carpeted theatre.

It's bloody expensive through Amazon but fortunately you only need a little bit, depending how big somebody's accident is. I'd probably in fact recommend saving it for the seats, if they're fabric and not vinyl or leather, since those tend to generally be a bit harder to clean than carpeting.

I am in Canada where booze is more expensive than most states... probably more comparable to California than some other places.

We charge $7 for a 7 ounce glass of wine (so a little larger than a normal glass). It is really cheap wine, but folks don't seem to complain. We sell cans of craft beer and cider at the same price, it sells pretty well but we are thinking of maybe lowering it a little.

We are just starting out with liquor and want to find a balance where folks can enjoy a drink but it is expensive enough that we don't start having issues with people regularly getting drunk. If they want a bunch of cheap Coors Lite they will go to the nearby sports bar and get drunk there rather than pay way more at the theatre.

One thing we are really considering is adding margaritas and bellini's. We have a slushie machine and there is some slightly higher end syrup that apparently tastes really great so you can just throw in some alcohol for a line margarite or use the peach flavour for a bellini. Those will probably be at the $10 price point.

Our fountain sodas are $3.75, $4.75, and $5.75 depending on the size for comparison.
