This is probably the #1 most requested forum I get emails on. Being a film based website and with home theater/DVD forums already existing out there I didn't figure this would be worth setting up, but the requests keep coming in...so let's see how it goes for awhile.
Please use this forum for all discussion of movies once they have left their general theatrical run, as well as DVD reviews, home theater equipment and setup questions, and just anything that isn't theatrical film oriented. If you are reviewing a movie on DVD/video that already has a thread going in the theatrical movie reviews forum, please start a new one here.
(If we end up closing this forum due to inactivity, all posts made here will be moved to Yak.)
As one of the Film Tech members who had sent you en email only last week to ask if you would consider establishing a forum devoted to home theatre hardware and software, I am very pleased to see that you have granted our wish. Yes, I do plan to post often in this forum because it is the only means I have to enjoy movies once again at home either on DVD, laserdisc or tape in my home theatre set up after films had finished their theatrical engagements .

Shouldn't the movie reviews all be grouped together, regardless of date? Suppose I watch a movie that was released two years ago and already has a thread in the reviews forum. Should I post my new comments to the old thread in the reviews forum or here? What if I watch a 20-year-old movie on 35mm film? Should I still post the review here?

That was a hard decision. Ultimately I felt that just going with a flat "if the movie is no longer in it's regular theatrical run, post in the Afterlife" decision. That could be changed, but for now this works. *Most* reviews 6+ months after a movie's original theatrical date will be in regards to a video screening and as such I would be interested in also hearing comments about how well the transfer is, any extra material and such (sort of like how the actual theater's presentation is frequently included in the movie review). For something like a repertory screening, I'm not going to be too picky about which forum it goes in, but unless it is a big 70mm event movie, it is probably best here.
