i have some projector alignment test film that my boss says will let me put the right lens in and alignment it right, get the right throw. the problem is he wont show me how to use it and i do not want to mess it up. so if anyone knows how to use this stuff please help. its clear with smpte and a bunch of lines and numbers on it if that helps describe it any.

what you have is SMPTE leader. Thread it up, put a scope appature and scope lens in the machine and throw it on the screen. Check it out, see if you can match up the same grids on both sides and on the top and bottom of the screen. Play with the focus and framing until they are just right. Then go down into the theatre and have a look at the image. By the way, the smpte leader should be spliced in a long continuos loop, but keep it and all film OFF THE FLOOR! Leader protects and identifies the start and end of every reel. SMPTE has two leader standards, SMPTE 55 for the Universal Leader and SMPTE 301 for the Projection Leader.
