  • New model of liquid cooling pump for Barco DPxK B and DP2K C series

Just thought I'd mention this in case it's useful to everyone.

I replaced a pump on a DP4K-32B this morning. Barco is now supplying a new model of pump for the B and C series projectors: this is Barco part # R9801816, and Iwaki model # NRD-08TV24-01. This appears to replace Barco part B401303K, Iwaki model # RD-05HTV24-15. The box came with a sheet warning that the projector's firmware had to be updated to the current version before swapping out the pump, or else damage to the new pump could result.

The release notes for firmware version 2.10.101 (released in June, and appears to be the current version) say that it adds support for the new model of pump, so this is presumably the version you need to upgrade to before replacing the pump. I did so, and everything was good afterwards: the projector ran for 10 minutes happily in refill mode, and then for another 10 with the bulb on. Fluid agitation in the reservoir looked normal.

Per the data plates on the pumps, the old model requires 1.5 amps of power and the new one 1.6. Presumably the new software lets the fan control board give it that extra .1 amp, whereas older versions do not.

The new pump also came with a hardware kit consisting of two brackets, fasteners, shock absorbing standoffs, and an adapter cable. The new pump has a slightly bigger diameter than the old, but it fitted onto the heat exchanger sub-chassis without the need for any of this hardware. So I'm guessing that the kit is needed to install the pump on a C series projector, but not a B series.

But the crucial gotcha is to update the firmware before you start.

Thanks for the heads up. I was unaware of the new firmware too.

According to the release notes. The pump was done for 2.8.86. I was aware that there was a new pump and adapter plates:

    • Improve LCB communication
    • Bug fix for LCM pump error
    • Improve I2C communication on Cinema Controllers R7681222
This is what is in the new firmware:

    Changes / Bugfixes in 2.10.101
    • Bugfix: RGB block temperatures where sometimes not visible
    • Support for "DP4K-CGS X50"

    Nothing about the pump.

    [EDIT] From the service manual:

In order to have this pump behave correctly, make sure you have upgraded the projector software to version 2.8.83 or newer. So 2.8.86 was sufficient for the pump. It is likely to adjust the parameters of the software reporting an issue.

    Here it is:
