  • Meyer Sound apps and Windows 11 - gotcha alert

Thought I would pass this along in case it bites anyone in future, at least so this is Google-searchable.

In the process of decommissioning a CP650 with an AES3 output card and replacing it with Q-Sys (analog in from a QIO box), I needed to change the XLR input type on a Meyer Galilleo 610 processor from AES3 to analog. To do this, the Meyer Compass app is needed, version 3.12.1. When I tried to install it on my Windows 11 laptop, it hung installing the AVC-something or other service. When I opened services.msc and tried to force start it, that provoked a BSOD.

After trial, error, and phone calls to Meyer, the solution is to install version 4.12 of the Compass software first (even though it won't work with this variant of Galilleo processor), followed by 3.12, which will then work OK.

Using the unbundled installer would be an easier workaround.

The AVDECC utility, as it exists on that version (3.12.1), is only useful for legacy format AVB stream management -- not something you're likely to encounter in cinema.
