  • Ema (2019)

"After a shocking incident upends her family life and marriage to a tempestuous choreographer, Ema, a reggaeton dancer, sets out on an odyssey of personal liberation, in this incendiary drama about art, desire, and the modern family" from director Pablo Larrain (Jackie, Neruda).

As I was telling a fellow filmgoer of this movie, what struck me about this movie was the use of dance & music as the highlight of the movie, whereas the two main characters of the movie, played by Mariana Di Girólamoand Gael García Bernal as the parents seem both terribly flawed and hard to relate to. Technically it's a well made movie, credited to having been mixed in Dolby Atmos, the 5.1 playback at the Avalon theatre (Washington DC) was tremendous.
