Remixed for 3D

I don't know about you, but if this is the same re-mix that was on the Blu-ray, that is very very sad news indeed.

My respect for Mr. Rydstrom is quickly dwindling. There is no excuse for this.

You can't have a 3D movie without 3D sound! [Roll Eyes]

I would have loved to see it in IMAX 2D.

Does this mean in IMAX we will actually get some Top Center channel sound?

Gotta love fixing what isn't broken. Maybe they can add some imperial walkers?

I gotta give it to Cameron: at least Titanic's re-release was done right. Notice how we got a 5.1 mix on Blu-ray when the previous DVD had a 6.1 remix, probably by Rydstrom.

It's too bad, because his work is so so good. Why is he all of a sudden becoming a revisionist?

Probably because he is being paid to make revisions by higher-ups who want revisions made. Either by Rydstrom or others who don't know the sound design like Rydstrom if Rydstrom passes on the work.

Just got home from a screening. Here was my review:

Great scan of the film. 3D was extraordinarily well done. Best 3D conversion I've seen. Still pointless, but I have to give credit where credit is due. The soundmix? Shit. Absolute shit. Gary Rydstrom, the original sound designer and re-recording mixer said in an interview that he remixed it and it was dreadful. Less impact. Uneven dialogue throughout. Overly active surrounds. The volume was turned up midscrening and that helped a bit. Make sure to crank this one if you're projecting. Overall, still fun and a film that really demands a big screen. Looking forward to seeing it in 2D.

I can't believe someone of Rydstrom's talent signed off on that mix.

What I wouldn't give to see this presented on the big screen as it was originally presented 20 years ago.

Who the F is F??

The first 30-seconds of this clip from "Witches of Eastwick" says it all.
