Hi, all,

Aside from the obvious, "don't close any windows," is there a way to prevent marking forums as "read" even when just visiting the list of forums?

It would would be "sweet heaven" if marking a forum "read" was an affirmative action I had to take, rather than happening automatically/passively by just browsing any part of the forum tree.

Maybe there's an option in my forum prefs that I'm missing.

-David

Perhaps install a different browser and don't ever log in on that different browser.

Of course, the drawback to not logging in is that there is no visual indicator as to what's new since the last visit. And then you're back to a sticky note with the last date you hit F-T.

I think this is the only forum software I've ever run across that marks everything read by just visiting the top of the forum tree.

It's not a show stopper, but it's odd "default" behavior.

Most forums I've been on do that. There is only one that I know of which actively allows you to reset the date/time of your last visit.

Anyway, why do you want to keep them marked as unread (new posts)?

The one feature I really miss here is a "show new posts since last visit" feature. There is one other site I'm a moderator at which has that. It produces one list covering all the forums of all the topics with new posts since my last visit. It eliminates the need to visit all the forums to see what's new every time. Here, we do have the "today's active topics" feature which is good if you're here every day, but if you don't log in for a couple of days it doesn't show what you missed.

Just a small nitpick when considering the big picture.
