The ferry 'Andrew J Barberi', the same ship that was involved in the serious accident a few years ago has been involved in another one, with injuries to at least 36 passengers. Is this an unlucky ship? This time it is thought to be due to a mechanical failure.

I hope the injuries are not serious; it was much worse last time.

I have been on the Barberi several times, but preferred the older ferries.

I have rode aboard the Andrew J Barberi ferry and its sister ship, the Samuel I Newhouse, many times during my college years. No problems other than falling asleep on the boats and not waking up in enough time to exit for my bus ride home. The ship horn of disappointment is waking up to that horn sound realizing you're headed back to Manhattan and then back to Staten Island. Introducing an hour of your life you're now going to waste and will not get back.

I've probably been on the barberi about ten times.

It seems that this is the third accident that this ship has been involved in; from Wikipedia:

On April 12, 1995, the Andrew J. Barberi rammed its slip at St. George due to a mechanical malfunction. The doors on the saloon deck were crushed by the adjustable aprons, which a quick-thinking bridgeman lowered to help stop the oncoming ferryboat. Several people were injured.
Of course, it will have made made many thousands of crossings during it's life, but three serious accidents for one ship is unusual.

And the New York Times reports a fourth, minor accident before it even entered service:

I can't really see the Voith Schneider propulsion system being a problem; It gives reliable service on many ferries all over the World,and the Barberi's sister ship doesn't seem to have had similar problems.
