He was in Thailand for a film and found dead in his hotel room. The cause reported varies depending on the source.

As more details emerge, it's looking less like suicide
and more like an accidental death due to erotic-asphixia.

Sad. [Frown]

If I recall, B-movie actor Albert Dekker, best known
for his role as "Dr Cyclops" was found dead under
similar circumstances in the 1960's.

(Just checked on line- Dekker's body was found naked
in a bathtub with a noose around the shower curtain
rod and he was handcuffed. There was evidence a 2nd
person was involved but never found. Death was ruled
to be 'accidental')

What a way to go. People who are into getting choked while jerkin' it really should invoke a buddy system.

When I was 18 I thought 30 was way old and sex was dead at that age. Now Im 50 and still have that train of thought.."70 is old, they dont have sex at 70 do they" so I am glad to see people have any sex drive at 70+.
What scares me is the association of "erotic-asphixia" with the
70+ crowed. Is this the risk we take in our senior years just to get a nut? Im also thinking getting a nut at 70+ Id probably sleep like a baby for a week:)

I remember seeing an episode of Six Feet Under which began with some business guy dying under somewhat similar circumstances: semi-strangling himself while jerking while watching a porno video. Apparently if you do this sort of thing alone you're supposed to bite into a lemon to make yourself snap awake if you feel like you're about to pass out.

A significant percentage of people die on the toilet. That has to be a pretty embarrassing exit. Especially if you were taking a dump. I think dying while experimenting with auto-erotic asphyxiation has dying on the toilet trumped. That's why I'm surprised anyone would try such a stunt. Who wants to be found dead that way?

One of my coworkers is a former police officer. He was a DEA agent and has worked with a couple different small town police departments here in Oklahoma over the last couple decades. His reaction to the circumstances of David Carradine's death, "you wouldn't believe how common this sort of thing is."

Sometimes it's pretty obvious what happened because the dead teen or adult is wearing sexual attire, be it leather S&M gear or even women's lingerie. Pornographic magazines or photos may be spread on the floor or some naughty video might be playing on the TV set. Pretty embarrassing situation because once you're dead you can't get that incriminating evidence out of sight. Your legacy is sealed as the guy who put on a bra, panties and mask and then choked himself to death while bopping the bishop!

"But the guy was found hanging in the closet! That makes it suicide!"

There's not very many places in a home where one can kinda sorta semi choke themselves and still be able to stand up if things get a little out of control. The closet is the easiest yet least obvious solution. No contraption to build or rig and then get out of the way afterward. It makes sense when you think about it.

The scary thing is most people don't really understand how easy it is to be rendered unconscious. I've been knocked out cold in a couple of fist fights. It doesn't matter how big you are; if you get tagged on the button you're dropping to the pavement. It's also very easy to get choked out. Back in high school a couple friends of mine got into big trouble for horsing around while bagging groceries at the commissary on the Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA. One put the other in a sleeper hold and didn't realize how effective the hold was. He let go of the other guy expecting him to just stand up and laugh it off. Instead the other friend just fell to the floor and put a big fucking knot on his head. Once you start getting choked out your legs don't have the strength to hold up your body.

Really this is pretty serious stuff. One of my high school friends intentionally hanged himself in the woods behind his family's house. For a long time I figured he must have struggled for a long time until he finally died. The end may have actually happened a lot faster.

David Carradine was in some pretty cool movies. I really liked both Kill Bill volumes. I remember watching episodes of Kung Fu back in the 1970s -and even remember the funny Coca-Cola commercials Carradine did to send up the Caine character. How about Death Race 2000? I also saw that one when I was only 9 or 10 years old. "Frankenstein" was a departure from Caine on Kung Fu. Then there was The Long Riders which had pretty much all the Carradine brothers involved -even the Revenge of the Nerds guy.

David Carradine had a pretty decent acting career. I just hope he will be remembered more for his movies rather than the kinky way he may have died.

The Man Show had this absolutely hilarious skit where if you died, a group of people would come to your house and sanitize it and get rid of all the porn and put up pictures of family members and such. So that your parents/family members always remember you in a good light. Someone should start this business!

It's because your Vagus nerve controls your GI tract along with your heart. Forcing out an impaction can easily impinge on the nerve, which would make you more likely to get an AV-node block.

First off, how big is this closet he was found in? If your going to choke yourself on, say, a rod to hang your clothes on, your feet would probably be touching the ground. Just a thought.

One doesn't have to be completely off the ground to get choked, though. If he moved his feet forward and sort of went into a sitting position, more of his weight would be transferred away from them and choking him.

Do you mean that dropping the kids off at the pool, or rather, if all the kids tried to jump in the pool at once I could die? So awesome.

There's a crime scene photo floating around the net from a Thai tabloid of Carradine.

The Carradine family has threatened to sue anyone who publishes that photo, for causing emotional distress etc.

The Ruling Class begins with the Lord of the Manor offing himself auto-erotically, thus setting up for the crazy heir Peter O'toole to be released from the looney bin and take over. One of the great British comedies of the 70's.

I really don't blame them. Anyone who sees the photo should sue as well, for seeing Carradine nekkid. Some things you simply can't unsee.
