Word on the wires is that Ana Nicole Smith — the buxom former Playboy model, occasional actress and singer, reality-television star, diet-pill peddler and, arguably most famously, the wife of billionaire oil baron J. Howard Marsh — has died.

From CNN:

Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital after being found unconscious in her hotel room, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel and was taken to a local hospital, according to news reports.

TMZ.com had reported that Smith collapsed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood just after 2 p.m. ET.

Ms. Smith’s lawyer, Ron Rale, confirmed some of the details to The Asssociated Press, saying that Ms. Smith collapsed and was found unresponsive at the Seminole Hotel before being rushed to the hospital.

The entertainment news Web site TMZ.com also said it had confirmation of details from Mr. Rale, described “desperate attempts” to save Ms. Nicole’s life by paramedics — including CPR and “emergency intubation” — on the way to the hospital, but to no avail.

Ms. Smith had weathered some difficult times of late, including a tempestuous struggle in the United States Supreme Court for access to her deceased husband’s fortune, the death in September of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Wayne Smith, a pending paternity suit over her infant daughter, and just this week, being named in a class-action lawsuit against TrimSpa, the diet-pill company for which she was a spokeswoman. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

We’ll update you as more news develops…

UPDATE: Seminole County police, in a press conference unfolding right now, that Ms. Nicole’s personal nurse called the hotel operator, who then called 911, at 1:38 p.m. Law enforcement and paramedics responded to a call for medical assistance at to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, a police spokesman said, at 1:45 p.m.

A body guard administered C.P.R., the spokesman said. At 2:49 p.m., police were informed by hospital personnel that Ms. Smith had died. It’s unclear if this was the official time of death, or just when police were informed.

There was no immediate information on why Ms. Smith had a nurse with her.

Anna Nicole used to rub me the wrong way, but all that changed after hearing of the loss of her child last year. I felt only compassion and sorrow for her as I knew exactly what she was going through. All the rest was insignificant.

On hearing this news today, I am deeply saddened. She was still young.

Pretty messed up news. I really feel sorry for her infant child.

There's also little doubt the resulting legal fight over Smith's estate will be a far more obscene display than Anna Nicole's most notoriously bloated moment's on that E! reality TV show.

I'm saddened too.

People are so cruel, and there's already posts everywhere around the internet about how "the meth hag is now in a worse place"- Its quite disgusting.

In all reality, the heart is a powerful thing. I've witnessed the deaths of loved ones who had broken hearts, and I think this is a clear example of such a case.

I may be in the minority on this, but I just don't have much sympathy for her. I mean, I didn't want her to die or anything, but she chose a low life style. She took advantage of an old man for his money; the fact that he was rich doesn't make it any more right. She took drugs, which I do feel is OK as a personal choice has an adult, but she probably did drugs (and other poor behavior) in front of her son. So, he grows up from a young age thinking drugs are OK; then he OD's. I felt she was indirectly responsible for his death. As I said, I didn't hate her, or even dislike her, but it was a sad end to a sad life (for two people.) She had a sort of career. which earned some income, so she wasn't desperate for money. She could have done better for herself.

Why is it people often feel sympathy for a person who frequently mess up their life, (and others) but ignore a regular working joe who 'simply' works at a normal job every day for years, provides for his family, and doesn't complain about it?

You are right, John. I didn't approve of her behavior, either. Not one iota. But I was painfully aware of what she had been feeling of late.

Although, whether her demise was by her own hand or not... the tragedy lies in a sad young life lost, and all the potential that it held.

I'm with John.

IMHO, Female Elvis without talent.

When someone like this dies people say "she was such a pretty girl"? If she was homely her death was less unfortunate?

Actually, her son didn't die of street drugs (ie cocaine, heroin, etc), but a lethal combination of prescription drugs I believe. There's rumors that her attorney/husband Howard K Stern may have given her son the "drugs".

I heavily suspect her attorney as well. He looks greasy and sleezy to me. First her son, now her...both died in the same way (apparently) found unconcious, alone... I will bet you that her sleezy attorney (howard stern) will continue the fight for that old mans estate citing that her young daughter deserves it, its her legacy, and as her father (yet unproven) I will watch over her trust with due diligence. Trust me. [sex]

Tim, you're cut from a better grade of cloth than she was.

I would never say that to diminish anybody's suffering but all she ever did for the world was to grow big tits and get naked and act stupid on TV.

There are plenty of stupid women with big tits whose children die every day so what makes Anna Nicole Smith's children any more important than yours?

I'm on John W's side. She chose a life of depravity... low even by HOLLYWOoD'S standards of depravity!

Well, after some thought, I have decided to rock the boat here and post my true feelings without sugar coating and with risk of making many people think I'm the devil himself.

Quite frankly, I am glad this leech is no longer here to suck out our precious oxygen. And it is a blessing for her little girl who will now have a chance to become a decent human being who makes her own money and not leech off others...children grow up exactly like the people who raised them. I am just like my mother and grandmothers, for example. I know how these gold-digging women hurt and damage families FIRST HAND. When my maternal Grandma passed away after a long, horrific and unusual illness, when I was 2, my grandpa felt very lonely and rented out a room in his huge house. This little blonde moved in who was younger than my mother (and my mom was the youngest of 4 children)and to make a long story short, got control of my grandpa, alienated him from his entire family and used up all his money. I got to grow up without my Pop-pop in my life and she never even called to tell us when he died Christmas Day (how suspicious) of 1998; my mother found out three years later by using a Mormons genealogy web site. Thanks to that woman, my mom and her brothers, who are all getting up there in age, still have to slave away for money when they could at least live a little more comfortably off the money their parents worked so hard to make for their family. That is what gold diggers, like Anna Nicole, do to people. I think maggots are more respectable creatures. And I can't believe all the attention the media gives her. We have actors and actress', Frances Langford, for example, die every day...people who touched millions...and never hear this much, if anything, about them on the news.

I do not believe in heaven and hell but I'll pretend, for argument's sake, to think along a traditional line for the moment and let me tell you, Anna Nicole is burning away in hell as we speak. Too bad she had to go to her firey eternity so soon.
And what an awful life that poor little dear had. Living of other families hard earned fortunes. I have no idea why ANYONE would not feel sorry for her...pardon my sarcasm.
I love how whenever somebody dies, wheater they be Adolf Hitler or Mother Teresa, everybody speaks of them as tho they were a saint....let's get real, folks, and call a spade a spade.

Tony H.

So, if your mother would have died when you were 5 months old, you would have been a better human being than you are? Obviously something is wrong with you and your upbringing if you talk that way about a person and their young child who will now grow up without a mother. Anna was not talented as an actress, singer, or really anything that I can think of...but to take motherhood away from her after she dies is just wrong. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, now crawl back under the rock from which you came you piece of [bs]
