Hey guys,

I'm building a wooden shoe rack for someone, I want to personalize their initials in the side. Instead of a solid piece of wood on each side, I want to have the initials as THE design on each side of the piece.

My problem is, I need to jigsaw this out and the first initial is a DIFFICULT one to jigsaw.

The initials I need are a letter "P" and "M". I'd like it to look good, but be kinda simple to cut since I'm not very skilled at woodworking. The "P" will be difficult due to the opening at the top of the letter. I was thinking of cutting it while leaving a small piece of wood at the top and it rising up into the circle of the letter.

Any ideas and links will help, I'm designing this tomorrow....and yes this is for a girl....She rates a 12 on the Greco scale [Eek!]

Hi Richard

My first thought for you is a router and lettering template with the appropriate cutter.

Another option is to see if there is a Steel Rule Die Maker in your area. Your lettering can be generated on the computer. The Die Maker can either laser or hand cut the lettering. In either case the cut out should be within 0.010 in.

There are some other options, but to discuss them with an inexperienced woodworker??????

Cheers

K
