November 11: Moustapha Akkad dies in terrorist attack.

Various sources have reported tragic news: HALLOWEEN godfather Moustapha Akkad was one of the victims in the terrorist bombings in Amman, Jordan this past Wednesday, along with his daughter Rima. The two were in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt hotel when it was struck by a suicide bomber, at the same time as similar attacks on the city’s Radisson and Days Inn hotels. Rima was killed instantly, and Moustapha was badly injured and suffered a heart attack. He was taken to a Jordanian hospital, where he died at 7:30 a.m. local time. The two were in the city for a wedding when they were killed.

Akkad was the executive producer behind all eight of the HALLOWEEN films, and was developing a ninth with Dimension and his son Malek (the two discussed it here). He also produced and directed the epics THE MESSAGE (a.k.a. MOHAMMED, MESSENGER OF GOD) and LION OF THE DESERT and executive-produced the 1985 chiller APPOINTMENT WITH FEAR. —Michael Gingold

I actually thought that "Lion of the Desert" was very entertaining. However, someone (editor? lab?) made a bad decision to put the intermission in the middle of a reel, making it difficult to find.

That is sad to hear. He is now gone along with Halloween Producer Debra Hill who also passed on earlier this year. I had the pleasure of working for Debra on "Crazy In Alabama" a number of years back. She was a very interesting person and a pleasure to be around, not your typical producer by any means.
