Subject: Photo Approval Needed

Hello,

Your photograph was forwarded to us as part of an article we are publishing for our May edition of Bisiness Review Monthly. Can you check over the format and get back to us with your approval or any changes you would like.

If the photograph is not to your liking then please attach a preferred one. We have attached the photo and article here.

Kind regards,

John Andrews

Yeah right, like I'm going to open that ZIPPED attachment... especially since Johnny didn't address me BY NAME. AND he couldn't even SPELL THE NAME OF HIS MAGAZINE correctly?

OBTW John-boy: Who did you say forwarded my photo? Who? Say again...???

What a f*ucking idiot! Him, not me! HA!

yea..the return address tipped it off right there, being some sort of marketing venue of sorts...

You'd should have sent it back with a nasty virus embedded in the body of the email, or sent it back to "spoof@(their domainaddress).com"

... see what happens..

Send the ZIP file to me and I will open it and peruse its contents. It can't harm me because I am great.

Spamassassin flagged it as spam and wouldn't deliver it to me! But I went in and grabbed it anyway. It unzips to "Photo Approval Needed.scr" What is an SCR file? The first line of code in the file is:

(Film-Tech won't let me post the line of code here, forum goes nuts)

Here is a picture of the first line of code that the forum won't let me post for some reason:

SCR files are screensaver files. But nasty people are able to embed a nasty virus in it.

It is just too simple: Someone sent Phil a virus.

Phil, if you read that delete that mail and attachement IMMEDIATELY. Hope you are running a good antivirus software.

The thing that makes .scr file attachments dangerous is e-mail programs like Outlook Express launching them automatically when the note is downloaded. By default, OE has the Preview Pane enabled and allows potentially harmful attachments to be viewed. Add the problem all the Active-X workings tunneled into the program and its just a huge security problem. You can disable just about all the things that makes Outlook Express risky to use, but most computer users simply don't know (or even don't care) how to do it. Those of us who are a little more careful in our Internet surfing habits usually jump to other alternative applications like Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird for web surfing and e-mail.
