The good things about having one:

their idea is that you never have to delete an e-mail again. Also, you can use their search engine to search your e-mails. Quite simply it is e-mail unlike free accounts that you have used before.
Instead of a 2MB cap on attachments like hotmail and yahoo attachments can be up to 10MB.

e-mails can be grouped in ways not before available in an online format.
Your choice.... My offer

Did they ever fix the security or privacy issues associated with this early on?

My e-mail has a 50MB limit for attachment size. AOL has a 20MB limit.

I'm thinking if anyone has an actual use or need for sending attachments that size, he/she probably has a more efficient way of transfering the files than e-mail attachment anyway, right? Or maybe I'm just not hip to the scene where 50 megabyte attachments are standard, yo!

I've got a g-mail already. I'm not too impressed. Maybe it would be more effective if people sent me mail at that address. I don't even get spam to it ... yet. I check it once a month.

Does anybody know anything that does make Joe happy?? [bs]

Ya missed the point man. It's free. No ISP paid here.

But if you do know a free service that offers that size of attachment please let us all know!!

y'all are smoking crack. G-Mail rawks. I wish it would let you manually group messages into conversations (like when I get four separate messages from amazon about one order, I'd like to group all of them together.) I was never a big fan of web-based e.mail since I like to archive all of my messages at home. But then I started needing access to my e.mail from multiple computers. G-mail is the answer for all of my woes.

what security / privacy issues? From what I understand, people just got their panties in a bunch thinking that messages could never ever be deleted and that all of their shady business dealings would be available for big brother until the end of time. Other than that, it sounds secure. I don't usually delete messages that come to my home account, so i'm not sure what the difference is.
