Many phones (if not all) have downloadable ring tones and lame music that can be played whenever someone calls. Also many can assign different "songs" to different people. While I have always thought this is stupid (yeah, yeah I know lots of you probably love it), I do desire a specific ring tone for my phone, so on to my question...

Does anyone know of a place to obtain a ring tone that is silent? Just pure silence. I have a phone number it needs to be assigned to. [Big Grin]

Oh Brad... I think it called..... the SILENT ring feature on ALL cell phones! BTW, cool people don't use ring tones anymore, the regular *ring ring* is the new cool ring that I hear. You're about a year late on the ring tones thread dude. [Razz]

Modtones has one, if your phone is on their supported phone list.

Jennifer, I think he wants it silent only for a specific number that calls, not for all incoming calls. Brad, does your phone have a record or compose feature? It would be fairly easy to do that way. It seems rather daft to download silence, but I guess if you can't compose or record the ringtone, you'd have to.

I think the best "ring tone" I've heard about in a while was a recent news item.

Apparently Phils favorite porn star [Big Grin] (inside joke) and others are now marketing ring tones of themselves doing the deed! [sex] !

The last two phones that I had you could designate the silent function for only certain calls if you wanted.

Gosh Will, you NEED to stop smokin' that I-30 stuff...

My ringtone is "Me So Horny" by 2 Live Crew... Except when you call of course. Then it's set to "Vibrate"! Hubba Hubba! [beer] [Razz]

I think the sound of a fart would be an excellent ring tone.

Instead of being annoyed, people nearby would just be relieved that you didn't pass gas for real.

The Jen - I am only wanting to designate a "silent" ring when certain people call. You know the kind.

Anslem - I am on Sprint and have a Sanyo camera phone that I think also is supposed to do web and text messaging and other random bs that I don't need or want. All I know is I went into the store and said "give me a phone that rings and doesn't play stupid music". Needless to say the salesman was dumbfounded and it took quite some time to check EVERY phone in the place to find this particular model that had a "ring" option. So I got shafted paying $200 for a bunch of features I didn't want...and then also found out that the earpiece on it is flush and not recessed, making it so that you have to hold the phone precisely over your ear or it mutes it. Stupid Sanyo product. [Mad]

Jeremy - couldn't tell you. Not sure if I'm going to keep this phone much longer anyway. Whenever someone sends me a text message it takes 5 minute to "download" it. Got a recommendation?

Christian - you rule! Apparently my phone DOES have this built-in! [Big Grin]

It sounds like it has to deal with your service more than your actual phone... but I'm certainly no expert.

Why buy them? There's software that will let you make your OWN ringtones out of mp3's, wavs, whatever... although, I'm at a loss to remember what it was called. [Frown]

Ringtones are stupid and annoying. Cell phones should be silent in public environments. I don't care what they do in private homes and cars, however, but I don't understand why people pay for cheesy ringtones.

Of course, I say this as one who only has phones with plesant-sounding mechanical bell ringers (a 2500 desk set, 2554 wall set, green Autovon desk set, and a Touch-a-Matic 32 desk set). My phone at work is a Nortel desk set with an electronic ringer, however.

Scott, that's cool! I'd forgotten about those.

Wish I could remember what software that was, where you make your own ringtones. I could take a .wav of a real ring and put it on my cell. My current ringtone approximates that sound, but I'd like some decent choices. I don't go for all that dippy-doodle techno crap.

I recently got my first cell phone, and it was a hand-me-down Samsung, so it's an older model. It functions as a telephone, so it does what it has to. It came with some cheesy melody ringtones, all obnoxious (at least they're polyphonic). There's a vaguely recognizable telephone ringer sound, which is all that's necessary.

There's a part of me that would like to download some favorite song as a ringtone, but that's just because I'm one to customize anything and everything to more comfortable specifications (for instance, the exact shade and hue of my Windows desktop has to be fine-tuned ... the stock gray makes me nauseous). My phone doesn't appear to be at all compatible with that useless stuff.

From what I've seen, phones have full color displays now? Is that really necessary? And what's this I hear about cameras built in? [Roll Eyes] [Razz]

My cell has a color screen... and it sucks trying to look at it outside. I wish it had the same b/w screen as my old nokia, at least I could see it in the daylight. It also has a camera, which also sucks. very poor resolution, very high compression. The only reason I would use it is if i were in a car accident and needed to document the scene so I could sue someone. I can play pac-man on it though, which is nice. [Smile] Other than that, all fluff. But it was free, so i can't complain. Try and find a phone these days without all of that stuff... [Roll Eyes]
