Can anyone tell me a font comparable to this one. This is one of the original former neons that was on the street marquee when the theatre was built. It would be nice to find something similar to use in print advertising and on the website. Thanks for any info.

The lettering in that picture doesn't look like it is from any commercially available computer font (at least not from any of the thousands I've seen). There's lots of great fonts from decades past that have never been digitized into Postscript, True Type or Open Type format. I have several Letraset type catalogs from the 1970s and 80s that have lots of great "analog only" type.

For graphics purposes you'll have to get that Pines lettering digitized. The easiest route is to take a good high resolution photograph with no barrel distortion from wide angle lenses. I'll often get back at as far a distance as possible and then zoom into the subject to flatten out perspective as much as possible. Scan in the photo (or if it is digital just open it) in Photoshop. Fine tune the level. From there you can either use the pen tool to hand digitize vector paths in Photoshop or you can bring the photo into a draw program like Illustrator, CorelDRAW or Freehand and recreate the lettering there using the photo as a guide. The simple, monostroke nature of the "Pines" lettering would make the task fairly simple. Once you have a polished vector-based version of the lettering you can make all types of computer graphics with it.

That's exactly the way I would tackle that, too.

Just like Manny, I have no clue about graphics design, but I would also tackle it exactly in that way if Mr Henderson says so.

Why is it that I can never see an image that is posted with comments?? I see the old blurry "illegal picture" image, mentioning stealing bandwith from the server. What gives???

Read the FAQ. That's what it's there for.

You will find a link to it at the top right corner of every page on the forums.

Do you happen to know if that font is in a digitized format anywhere? Google doesnt seem to come up with anything.
Thanks

Bobby, do you know what font that "Commodore" name is in? I've seen it used in a lot of current multiplexes.

I know that "Africa" or something like that is similar, but not exactly it, and I know that the actual Cinema Treasures logo is in DecoTech (TL?).

The "Commodore" lettering, which I could barely make out in the background, appears to be Gotham Bold. The centerline effect is simply an embellishment one can create within applications like CorelDRAW or Illustrator. It's not an effect one can do with a single click filter. There's more work to it than that, and is too complicated to describe here.

The "Cinema Treasures" lettering is ITC Anna. Granted there are lots of freebie font companies and such that copy fonts and change names to circumvent strange copyright laws on typography, but ITC Anna is the original and legit design.
