I guess the news keeps on coming. Even though it was expected, I feel a certain sadness. At least , he left on a high note.

Damn! I just got that flash email too.

"Johnny died due to complications from diabetes, which resulted in respiratory failure"

I always think of him after eating Mexican food. My sphincter reminds me of his song "Ring Of Fire".

RIP John! Your talent will be missed!

It's excellent that Johnny Cash was still receiving awards for his work. He was up for 7 at the MTV Video Music Awards. I don't even want to count the number of covers or "Ring of Fire" that were done in recent years.

I always had the sneaking suspicion that of all the Sun records alumni - the Million Dollar Quartet of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, & Roy Orison - the last man standing would be Jerry Lee Lewis. He's even outlasted Charlie Rich & Sam Phillips. He's bound to be taking this mighty hard, too. He was very close friends with Johnny Cash.

I knew it was coming, especially after June passed away, but it's still sad. His last record is brilliant, and sounds like a heartfelt goodbye to all of his fans. I'll be thinking of him as I head to Memphis tomorrow.

Joe, I had the same feeling. The last song Johnny sang - it was sad to listen to. I have to agree - it may have been a goodby song to all his fans.

AS I look at my CD collection and my analog collection as well, Johnny Cash is the "big name" in my collection followed by Gordon Lightfoot and Marty Robbins.

Fantastic artist, song writer and singer. Johnny will be missed. There will never be another like him.

I didn't know he and June both had died until I saw the news this evening. He was a survivor and late in life did a lot of Gospel stuff too. He'll be missed.

Let's not forget another great singer in the Cash family. Johnny's brother, Tommy Cash. Naturally, Tommy is alive and well. Tommy was born 8 years after his brother.

In event some have never heard the name of Tommy Cash, he delivered hits including SIX WHITE HORSES, RISE AND SHINE, THAT CERTAIN ONE, THOUGHTS ON THE FLAG, THE COWBOY AND THE LADY, GYPSY WOMAN and many of the songs from his more than 20 elbums.

If you have heard Tommy singing these songs, it sounds like Johnny.

Here is something Tommy posted on his website:

"I grew up in northeast Arkansas, the youngest of seven children. I remember Mama and Daddy working long hours to provide for us and give us a Christian home...most of all, I remember a whole lot of LOVE. My brother JOHNNY and I are the only two who made a career in the Music Business. Sometimes I perform a musical "Tribute" to Johnny in my concerts.

Remember Johnny's TV show in the early 1970's?

My mentor was Sid O'Berry in Nashville. He shot all of the train-yard films that were used with the songs Johnny sang. I went with Sid to Johnny's home in Hendersonville, TN to shoot some still images. I got to hold a reflector! Cash and Carter were wonderful. I felt so at home with them.

A few weeks later, I was a seat filler at the Country Music Association Awards telecast that was done live from the Opry House. I got to sit down front... 3rd row. Johnny was the MC that year. During a commercial break, he was standing at the podium waiting for his cues. He looked down in my direction, spotted me, and said "Hi, Bruce, Good to see you!" I was really popular with the folks sitting around me for the rest of the night. Full House!

He was a true original.
