Fox changed the name after deciding that some people might not know what X2 stands for. One reason being that the movie X2 has already been rated so they would have to resubmit it if they wanted to change the name (I am not sure if this is true or not). I mean c'mon, they can do better than either of those titles. It should be required by law that anyone saying "X2" outloud also be on a skateboard doing X-TREME trix. Or maybe a snowboard. Isn't there already a team called DC United or something like that? The whole "X2" thing makes me think of K2 ski equipment. Fox might have figured that for the casual moviegoer, the phrase "X2" standing alone might mean a scaled-down version of xXx. Incidentally, X2 will open as close as possible to day-and-date around the world. Australia, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Jamaica, Spain, Switzerland, Venezuela and most Pacific Rim countries open X2 on 4/30. Austria, Brazil, England, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and South Korea follow on 5/1. Incidentally, there are some unusual bookings/non-bookings for this tentpole. In Connecticut X2 will open at a New Haven arthouse -- the York Square Cinemas -- since National Amusements won't open X2 in nearby Orange or North Haven.
