Ian "The Violator" Price started up a thread in GL about the running time for the soon-to-be-released horrible movie of which some people are actually looking forward to (I've no idea why). The thread turned into movies that are "guilty pleasures" for people, so I thought it would be interesting to see what various members had on their guilty pleasures list.

Here's a good place to start.

I'll start with one...

A Night at the Roxbury

So is a guilty pleasure something which you feel guilty about liking, or something which others think you should feel guilty about liking?

Contamination (1980) - really terrible film, but I just find it endlessly hilarious It's like 'hey, we've got this one neat effect so lets build a movie around it and see how many times we can get to use it!!' Well, actually it's a very cheap and patently obvious effect, but it's (how can I say this...?) - gleefully spectacular!!

I first heard the term "Guilty Pleasures" many MANY years ago when Siskel/Ebert were still on PBS. They did a show of films they loved but were somewhat ashamed to admit to. I don't recall all of the films, but one of Eberts was INFRAMAN, a Run Run Shaw epic with a huge hero named Infra-Man. His enemy was the infamous Lady Dragon Mom. Incredible energy in this film...lots of action. Someone stole many of these ideas for the POWER RANGERS series.

My guilty pleasures include XANADU, both BILL & TED movies, and many of the Troma Films, especially those directed by Lloyd Kaufman. I also have a special affinity for THE BIG BUS.

Smokey and the Bandit and Saturday Night Fever (which is the only movie I can stand Travolta in).

Hmm... looking over that list of the '100 Worst Movies', I found a few titles that are actually ones I liked in one way or another...
The Crow: City of Angels
Drop Dead Fred
Highlander: Endgame
Lost In Space
Natural Born Killers
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
Star Trek V: the Final Frontier
Star Wars - the Phantom Menace

I won't bother to explain why, I'm not that motivated today!

Smokey and The Bandit is my all time favorite movie. Cheech and Chong movies are endlessley hilarious and I could watch them all day long. And the Texas Chainsaw Massacures(SP?) were much more enjoyable and funny than any of the Freddy Kruger or Jason movies.

Starship Troopers. (aka "the greatest B movie of all time")

Most of the critics (and all of my friends) hate this. I loved it. So there.

Hawk the Slayer.(early 80's sword and sorcery movie starring Jack Palance)

Pitch Black.

And for some reason I find myself defending the original "Highlander" movie when it is brought up in discussion.
