Scott N asked this in Features & Trailers under Kissing Jessica Stein: "BTW, why does Fox Searchlight keep producing flat films that have the 20th Century Fox Fanfare with Cinemascope Extension?"

20th has used the extended fanfare on all its releases with the current "flyover" logo, which dates from c. 1996.

Fox Searchlight has used the extended fanfare on all its releases beginning with The Full Monty. Why? The Full Monty was a 20th release outside the US.

On a Fox Searchlight title the fanfare is timed to start with the first searchlight. That way you can easily tell if the film is in sync. US prints of Sexy Beast have R1 out of sync; the fanfare starts early if you run the print in SRD.

Pretty interesting note on "Sexy Beast". I still had that DVD in my living room from the rental store. The sync on the mix seems correct on the disc (the spotlights cue up on prominent drum beats of the Fox Fanfare music).

To clarify some trivia, some the current flyover logo for 20th Century Fox was introduced in 1994 with the release of "True Lies".
