I'm trying to find out how many Majestic Theatres built before 1950 are still operating as first-run. If anyone has any information please let me know. Thanks.

Was there a Majestic theater chain, or are you just looking for theaters with that name? If it's the latter, there is a Majestic Theater in Madison, WI that was built in 1908 that is a first run arthouse. (with horrible presentation, btw)

Is the Majestic Gettysburg going to play Warner's "The Majestic"?

I heard that the Majestic was being restored to a single. Any truth to that? And is it still playing movies full time?

Richard,

It would make sense for us to play "The Majestic", remember the Gettysburg Majestic was a Warner theatre till '76. At this point, we're trying to find out how many pre-'50's majestics still operate as first-run just in case we can get some media publicity. So far I have Eastland, TX and Conway, NH plus the art house in Madison, WI(thanks Joe).

We still run 2 shows per night plus matinee on Sat. and Sun. The landlord (Gettysburg College) has been talking about returning it to a single screen for years now. At this point it's still in the talking stages.

Hey joe, where is that theatre in madison? Ive never even heard of it. I have been to the orphium however, and i was very impressed and disappointed at the same time. Such a historic building and elegant auditoriums. I saw appocolypse now redux there a few months ago and had to painfully sit my way through the 3.5 hour movie watching it shake very badly. Looks like they needed a new set of tension bands/springs many years ago. If that was intermittent shaking then ive never seen one go bad like that before... I as tempted to let them know that i would take a look at it for free

Tom,
The Majestic Theater in Madison is on King Street (the street directly opposite State street on the other side of the capitol building), one block off of the Capitol Square. It is run by the same people as the Orpheum (I too sat through a painful screening of Apocalypse Now Redux) and the presentation is even worse, if you can imagine. The same quality of projection is there, but to add to "the horror" the projector screen is at a non-perpendicular to the projector, eliminating the possibility of sharp focus over the entire image.

(I'm guessing the projector was not the problem at the Orpheum. It was probably misthreaded.)
