I know this is totally non-film related but this sparks my interest. Reason being is that a guy up at work today told me that you can tell a lot about a person from knowing what car they drive, the color, the size, etc. He got into this big "unconcious subliminal plane" speech. I thought I would test his theories. Granted I do not know anyone here at film-tech personally but from the way some of you guys talk about each other (Joe, Ian, Brad) the rest of us kinda get a clue.

FIRST CAR: June 1995-May or June 1996. 1972 (i think) Datsun 280 ZX something or other. Gray. No air conditioning. AM/FM radio that barely picked up anything. 8-track player: dont know if functional due to lack of ownership of 8-track tapes. I was also unable to find any 8-tracks at garage sales that I would be interested in listening to. Not that I tried very hard.
Why don't I have it anymore? - Someone ran a red light and hit me.

SECOND CAR: August 1996 - April 1999. 1985 Toyota Celica. White. Had air conditioning when I got it. Ran out of air, I guess. AM/FM stereo. Blown speaker in the back. Bought a stereo with a tape player June 1997 and replaced speakers with new cheap ones. Never took the face off. Got stolen. Went back to old stereo. Why don't I have it anymore? - Had an oil leak. Kept forgetting to check oil. Ran out. You know what that does.

THIRD CAR: July 1998 - October 1998. 1980 Ford F-150 Extended Cab Pickup with a camper. Brownish & Blue (if I remember correctly). AM/FM Stereo with casette player. Two gas tanks. Why Don't I have it anymore? - Fell asleep at the wheel and flipped it...three times. Landed on wheels, got out with my elbow scratched and withing two minutes the truck was in flames. There was, however, the Hooverphonic CD found laying face down on the road with indentions all over it. Still plays to this day. Also salvaged was a rubber snake I found cleaning up ANACONDA opening weekend that hangs above my current rearview mirror as well as in the Toyota and the Ford.

FOURTH CAR: SEE SECOND CAR.

FIFTH CAR: September 1999 to present. 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlas Ciera. Maroon. Air Conditioning works (pretty much) butheater doesnt really work much. Headliner falling out. Hope to get something else soon. Don't know what though.

Ever since 1976 I've driven a white car. The reason is not subliminal. That year I was driving through a black asphalt parking lot in Vermont in the middle of the evening on one of those cold rainy nights when the windows fog up, and I ran (at a slow deliberate speed) directly into the side of a black car, which had no marker lights and was driven by a black man wearing a black raincoat.

Aside from the fact that there were probably only 100 black men in Vermont that year, and even a white face or shirt might have tipped me off that there was something in my path, I was suddenly made aware just how stupid driving a black or dark colored car is. Now that I live in the sunbelt, driving a black car would be not just stupid, but hot and stupid.

I've driven a Nova straight six, a Nova Spirit of America edition tricked out with Holley 4bbl & Eidelbrock & enough other junk to bring the mpg down to a respectably abysmal number, a Datsun B-210, a Toyota station wagon, an F-250 pickup with camper, a Honda Accord, a Ford Galaxy, a Camry, an Astro Van, and a Ford Falcon. If your friend can make sense out of that mix, I'd like to hear it.

First I would like to know if Gary Bussey gave Joe Redifer permission to use his picture? If Joe is Gary I want him to know I enjoyed his portrayal of Buddy Holly in the 1977 film.

First Car was my best car in 1959 I had a 1958 Chevy Impala Red Convertable. They do not make cars like that anymore.

Skip forward 42 years..I now drive a Dodge Intrepid Green with a hint of Blue. Travels great at high speeds. Handles curves well has a great stereo system for CD's and tapes. Normally listen to Broadway Show tunes, the Irish Tenors and Andrea Bocelli.
My office is 75 miles from my house so I do spend a lot of time in the car.

On occasion especially nice warm days, I take my wife's car with is a Chrysler Sea Bring Convertible. Black and also handles the road well. Better on the curves than the Intrepid.

Now here in 2002 I bought a new BMW 321i and it drives great. Holds the curves a high speeds. Comforable , Had to put in a fuzz buster which is wonderful and has more than paid for itself in less than three weeks. [Big Grin]

1st real "my car" 1967 Chevy Nova, gold, small block; that was in 74 when I was dating a "motor head" that car did move
Favorite car, 1980 owned a 1970? orange VW Beetle!! Loved that car, just plain fun to go puttering around, had the partial rag top put in, no heat of course, had to scrape the insides of the windows in the winter but my ex husband crashed it Now I have the true '90s mom-mobile, Dodge Caravan to haul around my 4 teenagers. It does make film pickups from ETS easier, but I do look forward to getting back to a "real" car in about three years as the boys (hopefully) move out and I don't need all the room!!!
So I guess the idea that the car reflects the person only holds true for the time frame you are looking at: I went from racy, old stock type car to fun car to practical car as my life changed. Next step for me is the mid life crisis sports car ! until the grandchildren start then comes the comfy but practical car !LOL

I've had a few starting in 1971.

First car: 1960 Dodge Polara station wagon with a 383 V8, 4-bbl, air conditioned, etc. It's tailgate was bashed when I got it, and could not find a replacement. So...

2nd car: 1967 Plymouth Fury II. Lt. blue. Also a 383 V8. Previously owned by an old lady. Rusty, but looked great inside.

3rd: 1972 Pontiac GTO. Dark green. Installed my first and only 8-track in this one. Recorded my own 8-tracks for it. Could barely afford payments, and insurance.

4th: 1977 Olds 98. Red on red. Loaded. Looked nice when I sold it after 190,000 highway miles.

5th: 1985 Olds Toronado. Light blue w/dark blue 1/2 vinyl top. Got it in 1986. Loaded. Had 4 miles on it when I got it. Turned over to 97,000 yesterday! (5/16/01) I'll drive this one until it rots. It is maintained to death, and runs, looks, and drives like a new car. The AC has recently died. Needs to be converted to the new FreonŽ. Has the original Delco-BoseŽ sound system that still sounds awesome! I'm driving hot, but the music sounds good. Lots of classical, and pipe organ stuff on this system.

5A: 1984 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. Old business truck. it has 295,000 miles on the original straight six engine (300 cid.) Looks like hell, rusted out, has a good Pioneer sound system, no AC, runs and drives great. Bought a load of film in Ohio last summer, and it did so well on the drive that I decided to go and get another load! Been driving this one since 1993.

5B: 1986 Pontiac Grand AM. Given to me by a friend who bought my dads car from me. Rusty as my truck, but gets fantastic gas mileage. Plus, I've learned how to work on fuel injection systems with this car.

Bought a 1963 Olds 98 back in 1981. Restored it in 1983, and drove it awhile, before selling it in 1985. EVERYTHING worked, including the original air conditioning!!

My car and truck are always washed and cleaned out regularly. The car looks really nice, and the truck--well---my insurance agent told me once that the truck looked like it was attacked by a swarm of "ironworms!"

EDIT: Added a Pontiac...

What a topic.......

First Car in 1983: 1972 Dodge Van w/ a 318 V8 - but only 7 cylinders worked. It got about 7 miles a gallon. Couldn't get any dates in High School driving a van though.

Secong Car in 1985: 1985 Nissan Truck - no radio, no air, no cigarette lighter, vinyl floors and seats... plain ol' truck. Bought it brand new from the showroom and wrecked it two weeks later in the ice and snow.

Third Car in 1987: 1987 Old's Calias - black metallic w/ grey leather interior. Great car, but I sold it for.....

Fourth Car: 1989 Chevrolet Beretta GT - the car that keeps on ticking. It's sitting out in the parking lot now with 241,000 miles on the odometer. Wrecked it in Oct. of '97 and split the welds on the unibody frame. Still drivable but because the fenders were bent down on the front wheels, I had to figure out a way to drive home only making LEFT turns!! I went to a junk yard and bought the front HALF (from the dashboard to the front bumper)of another Beretta for $500.00 and had it welded to the front of mine. The body of the car was blue, but the front end was metallic gray. Wrecked it again in the ice and snow in Jan. of 1999, and went back to the same junk yard and bought more fenders, headlights, bumpers, and another hood for $200.00. Made the repairs myself in the basement. The car then had a blue body with one black fender, one maroon fender, a black hood and a white truck lid. Painted the maroon fender black with Krylon, the headliner is falling out (it's like riding in a circus tent), the radio has a broken-off toothpick holding the power button in place, and the windshield wipers come on every time you hit a bump in the road. Other than that... it's a great car and gets about 28 miles a gallon.

Fifth Car: 1996 Ford F150 Truck - it sits in the basement during the week and only comes out on weekends. It's 5 years old now and just turned over 28,000 miles. This one should last a while.

First: 1980 Honda Civic (4 cylinder), Maroon, parents bought for me in summer 1984. Got rid of in 1991 after buying second car. Sold for $1000 and I got half the money and my parents got half. Had 175000 miles on it when I sold it. Had 50000 miles on it when I first got it.

Second: 1991 Buick Skylark 3.3L V6, White, bought new in summer 1991, now has nearly 170000 miles on it.

Third: 1987 Buick Somerset 3.0L V6, White, parents bought new in Fall 1986 and sold to me for $600. Has nearly 180000 miles on it.

I'm currently driving the second and thrid cars alternating between the two. Both are in excellent running condition and the A/C works on both. I'll drive them as long as I can.

Many people cannot distinguish easily between the two cars, since they have almost identical body styles. When people come to my house, they ask, "You have two of the same car?"

1st car: in 1972 was a 1962 Volkswagon Beetle...they sure don't make em like that anymore and its darn good that they don't.

2nd car: 1973 Toyots Corolla. Drove down through the south east and to Key west in 73 in this for 69.00 total in gas! But then it was only .35 a gallon too.

3rd car: 1975 Toyota Pickup, was great for dive trips to Florida.

4th car 1978 Toyota Celica Great Car...Got many speeding tickets in it.....

4.5th car When the 78 Celica got wrecked(not by me) I got temporarily got 1969 Buick Skylark 350 with 4 brl and turbo 350 tranny, no polution crap on this one. Left most stuff in the dust including the dust. Was a great car.

5th car 1980 Toyota Celica Vroooooom.....

6th Car 1987 Dodge Caravan....Biggest piece of junk I ever owned two transaxles and three trannys later I finally sent it to the crusher.

7th Car: Can't remember this one. I was so pissed at the Dodge Caravan that my mind obviously went blank after that. I'll come back and fill this in when It pops back in.

8th car 1990 Ford Aerostar stretch Van: One of the best vehicles I ever owned. Tabbed up 210,000 miles of service calls before I traded it in on a Dodge V-10 Pickup

8.5th car 1955 Chevy with straight 6. Someone before me had dropped a 262 truck 6 banger in it and a turbo 30 tranny. Ran like a bat out of hell. Left it behind when I moved to SLC. Figured I could get another in better more rust free shape.

8.51th car 1986 Honda CRX This thing was lotsa fun to drive. Eventually it sucked in its head gasket like most of them eventually do.

9th Car 1997 Dodge V-10 Pickup. Since the Dailies buisness was booming around this time I got this truck as the entire booth would fit into the truck. You didn't know it was in the back though. Really great truck zero problems except for gas consumption. When I switched it over to synthetic oil the mileage went up an average of 2MPG! Sold it after I got to SLC for that gas reason.

My Present car is company provided, 19 whatever Mazda Protowhatever. Its free so I drive it. Pretty comfortable car. At present I am looking for a 4wd thingy to drive up in the mountains. Not sure what I'll buy yet.

My first car was a FORD CORTINA MK4

Cost me 200 Pounds stirling ($328.00 US)

It was custard yellow, but after a year I had to change the doors & hood. The only ones I could find were Red. So for 6 Mounths I
drove round in a Jam rollypolly with Custard.

First car, '93 Ford Tempo. Bought it used in 95 with 27K on it. Traded it in in July of 2000 with 61K on it. A good first car, but short on styling, handling, power, and coolness, I guess kind of like me. License plate FD GIMPO - Ford Gimpo.

Current car, 2000 Chrysler 300M. Bought it new with 27 miles on it. It currently has about 7,500 miles. I love this car, it has everything the Gimpo lacked and is very cool. License plate VT 300 - Virginia Tech 300.

1st vehicle 77' 318-V8 Dodge step side pickup, replaced 318 with a 340 out of a 71 Dodge Challenger, drove it until the bed fell off piece by piece.

2nd Vehicle - 84 Buick Regal (known in College as the Illegal Regal), 3rd - 91 Dodge Shadow (most dependable I've owned), 4th - 97 Dodge Avenger (piece of crap) - Current 2000 Dodge Durango (love everything about it except the gas mileage, thankfully it's only 2 miles to work)
