I just built my drive-in here in Wilson county where I was pretty much the only game in the county, with the exception of a run down Carmike 3 screener here in town.

Just this week, front page headlines of the local paper announced a new 10 screen indoor theatre broke ground and expects to be up and running by Spring of '04.

Just my luck!!

Barry:

You may be able to turn that new theater announcement to your advantage. Those new theaters cost a lot of money to build so naturally ticket & concession prices will be high. Also the new theater will likely be running tons of those tv commercials before the feature.

You've got several things going for you that should be mentioned:
Lower prices
Better food and more selection
No commercials
Double features
Local ownership
Good presentation

A company called Best Theatres is building an 8-plex in Pullman, Washington. Not sure on an opening date. (Paul G. T. -- maybe you could detour through there on your travels and take some pics!)

Hoyts Saybrook Cinema 6 in Old Saybrook, CT closed last month. I have a feeling a lot of these former Hoyts theatres that were not bought by Regal will probably close soon.

Next town over (Lemoore, CA, ~7mi away) they're building a new 6-auditorium theater with stadium seating. Tiny place, but so far it looks nice, not even close to getting to the interior, but the design sure does beat our movie theater. We'll probably lose customers, fresh theater, stadium theater, most likely better projection and sound system. Who knows, time to wait and see...

I'll be sure to grab some photos of the place sometime soon.

Our company (Starplex) has a six-screen stadium theater opening in Sulphur Springs, TX in a few weeks. We also have a few projects around Texas in the planning stages right now.

Century Theatres is still on their building rampage here in the Bay Area, and just opened their new 20 megaplex at Oakridge mall in San Jose. They also have a CineArts location planned for the upscale Santana Row shopping center.

I hear rumors that a vacant plot of land in Clovis, Ca has been earmarked for a new theatre, but I have not yet been able to find out anything about ownership or screen count yet. If this does indeed open it will be interesting to see what happens to the existing theatres in Clovis, as they were both built by UA back in the 80's.

Regal closed a 16 screen UA that was in Irving, TX. The MacArthur 16. This thing was only like 4 years old. Apparently they couldn't afford the rent. Pics of the theatre--->
