Hi,

Is the Imax opening on July 29th (advertised) or the 15th like the 35mm release?
Fandango is taking orders for the 15th in the Lincoln Square NYC imax.

Or is nyc special?

thanks,
Tom

The delay is due to the contract to run TRANSFORMERS: WHATEVER for a certain number of weeks. This got all messed up when Warners moved Harry Potter from last Thanksgiving season.

The film will open in IMAX on July 15 at the AMC Century City 15 (in Los Angeles), Henry Crown OMNIMAX (in Chicago), and AMC Loews Lincoln Square (in New York. All others open on July 29. (The Omnimax in Chicago is at the Science Museum.)

FirstShowing.net also reports that the first special IMAX 3-D section is the first 12 minutes of the film.

(Many of the comments on the linked site talk about Fake Imax.)

Oh, and if it seems weird that the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago plays the IMAX print early with the LA and NYC locations (rather than some megaplex), it's because Harry Potter: The Exhibition is currently on display there.

The BFI IMAX in London are playing it from the 15th as well, probably because Transformers 2 came out a week early here and Harry Potter always smacks it at the box office in the UK.

Too bad the L.A. engagment is at a minimax, and it a minimax that doesn't even reach the full 58 feet! It's like 53 feet or something, pathetic!

Is there a difference between minimax and liemax? One chain here is advertising HP6 liemax shows in the press already.

AMC Century City is a digital Imax theater.
