I'm sure many of you are familiar with the old Pacer/Cats ticketing systems. When there's a problem with the MOS, a prompt will request a response to a five-digit number, along with "contact Pacer or authorized representative." From what I know, there's a simple formula for calculating the response, but anyone who worked for Pacer has been told they must not give it up, even under severe torture (: The equipment is useless without it. Does anybody know the formula?

Haven't you ever dealt with an old Pacer? Didn't it make YOU yell?

And I always wondered about that code. I used to write all of the ones down that SOS gave us in hopes to crack the code.

I recently heard what the old Century IT department did to get codes and temporary passwords for our old DOS based programs, it's probably something so stupid that you'd literally have to be brain dead to think of it. Like they had a movie quote and they had to count a certain number of characters back and forth depending on the date or some garbage like that.

Here are some comments from people who worked for Pacer:

"I remember you had to add something and multiply by .625"
"A simple mathematical equation."
"Something like transposing the digits and adding."
"Different formulas for different systems."

You'd think I was looking for codes to launch nuclear missiles!

I remember the one for the THEATRON system we had at
Tri-Boro was like the date that particular day, but
the year was put in backwards, or something like that.
Does anyone still use THEATRON for their ticketing?
I wonder what BCG theatre is using the old TBC
computer.

In order to make the PACER system work properly you must complete the following steps;

1. Contact Ready Theatre Systems and order the RTS system for your theatre

2. Remove all the PACER equipment and install the new RTS system

3. re-create the copier bieng destroyed with a baseball bat scene from the movie "Office Space" With your old PACER equipment.

Hope that helps!

(edited to add in the word "scene" between "bat" and "from")

Yes, destroying the equipment altogether is probably the best advice!

Here's another idea: I'm going to rent a Turkish prison and hold former Pacer associates captive until one of them gives up the formula. No food, no water, the rack, electrocution, Russian Roulette....someone's gotta talk!!!
