I Just attended about 20 films at THE BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2006 It’s in its third year, and - I Predict - is building up to be the world’s biggest film festival. Bangkok is a top tourist destination because of the value and variety of activities and shopping – The 10 Day festival offers hundreds of international films - shown in their brand new SIAM PARAGON cinemas.
Q & A’s are conducted with the producers of most of the films, and Stars lead by Christopher Lee (record 280 films- going for record of longest living) & Catherine Deneuve (recurring nightmare of not knowing her lines), and Producers including Oliver Stone (says the human race should relax and get a sense of humor) talked about their life’s work.
The ‘’new age’’ low budget, documentary type films are strongly supported too. Now any one can produce a feature and have it shown to an appreciative film festival audience. Towards the end of the festival most shows filled at the bargain price of 100 Bart (US$3) a ticket. Check the festival programme at their website. Unauthorized External Link!

Like most of the folks in the U.S. that live in the towns that these fests are held in the residents of Bangcock are probably mighty glad when all the extra 17,000 people in town for it have left and gone home [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin] .

17,000 temporary extras amongst the 9,000,000 of Bangkok? I don't think anyone other than greatful local area hotels would either notice or care.
