From today's issue of the Eugene Register-Guard. Forgive me if this has already been discussed - I did a quick search and didn't find anything about it.

Cinemark puts age limit on R-rated evening films

Starting Monday, Cinemark's Movies 12 at Gateway Mall is instituting an "under 6 after 6" policy that's already in effect at its newer Cinemark 17 multiplex.

Children younger than 6 no longer will be admitted to R-rated features that begin after 6 p.m., even when accompanied by a parent or an adult guardian.

Terrell Falk, vice president of marketing and communications for Cinemark U.S.A., said the chain introduced this policy at a few theaters several years ago in response to written complaints from customers that their evenings out had been spoiled by fussy children too young to be interested or involved in the movie.

"We're not saying people with children that young can't see certain movies," she said. "They just need to do it in the afternoon, when there are fewer people."

The policy was put into effect at many Cinemark theaters last fall, Falk said, and is now being expanded again.

This is an old policy for Marcus Theatres. No children under 6 are admitted to R rated movies AT ANY TIME! A few parents get upset about this policy, but no one wants a screaming baby in an adult movie.

No one wants a screaming baby in ANY movie. Screaming babies ruin everything no matter where you encounter them. I can't remember ever saying to myself, "Wow, I'm sure glad there's a screaming baby here."

I wish some brave chain would just ban kids under age 3 altogether, and when the cheers went up from the rest of the population, the other chains would do the same, and then it would spread everywhere. At least, in my perfect fantasy world it would.
