I looked through many of the topics but didn't see anything on liability coverage for an independent theatre. Who have you found to be the best and approximately what is a reasonable premium per month? The theatre will be in the west U.S. and will be serving beer and wine [beer] . (I'm considering opening this theatre and these forums has been incredibly helpful. Kudoz [thumbsup] to this site and all the members.)

Now we don't serve beer, and we're in the Southeast as opposed to the west, but my wife and I own a newly-built single screen drive-in here in Tennessee and we pay about $5k a year for everything. $1M in liability, plus fire, theft, etc.

I'd say the beer would substantially increase your liability issue.

Barry,
If you feel it is appropriate, would you mind posting what company your insurance it with?
I'm in Indiana, so your situation might be more applicable to me.

Our coverage is around 12 grand a year for everything. We considered beer sales a while back, restricting it to the balcony where all patrons would be carded to be admitted. The idea was dropped after realizing that alcohol equals drunks in the dark on stairs and ramps---bad news.

We use a small independant company here in Lebanon, TN. I'm sure the actuall policy is probably with a bigger company. I'll check with my wife... she's the one who writes the checks.

When I find out.. I'll email you directly.
