Author Topic: FInally it happens here in INDIA Kamakshipalya Dhananjay Expert Film Handler Posts: 190 From: Bangalore, India Registered: Aug 2002 posted 06-16-2003 02:04 AM                     I have always been breaking my head, and so have a lot of other people, on asking American studios here in INDIA to release their films in INDIA on just the same day or the very next week from the movie's release date in the US. For several decades, that is, till Mar-31-2002, the law in INDIA required foreign films to require a wait of 7 weeks before they would release in theatres in INDIA. Studios here never really encashed on that relaxation and movies still release a month after the US release. The MATRIX RELOADED, though a huge hit internationally is showing all signs of being written off just like every other big film since SPIDERMAN in INDIA. The MATRIX RELOADED released here on the June-13-2003 long after even the pirated videos of the movie had reached saturation. Finally, Columbia Tristar India, undoubtedly the most progressive of all the American studios here in INDIA have decided to launch CHARLIE'S ANGELS in INDIA on the July,4th - a week after the US release. It is obvious enough that this decision could not have come without the untiring efforts of one Uday Singh who heads the company in INDIA. It is great that this change has come now. The purpose of writing this is to remind some exhibitors out there that it works to try or hope or both. Somebody will always come to turn things around.
