How can I get grosses for, say, the last year for a small plex that just closed?

Your best bet is probably talking to the individual distributors to get the theater's reported grosses. Or you might be able to pay ACNeilsenEDI to tell you.

Back in April when I was seriously looking into buying an existing drive-in here in Tennessee, the existing operator (not the owner) would NOT give up any numbers at all.

I got ahold of a couple of other drive-in owners who suggested calling a film booker, and they might be able to help. We did just that, and we got enough information from his report to decide we would NOT pursue the purchase any further.

I was amazed at what information he could get. However, I think what the existing operator "turned in for grosses" vs. "what they actually pulled in" might be a little different. I found it extremely hard to believe that a theatre (drive-in or hard top) could only pull in $3,800.00 (TOTAL) for 3 weeks of Spiderman @ 1 week off the break.
