I heard yesterday that there was a simulcast Bon Jovi concert, via satelite feed, to several theatres with digital capabilities. Anyone else have this capability at your theatre? It sure would offset some of these down times we have been having lately.

I've never heard of a concert shown (projected) in a theatre but I know there are quite a few theatres here in Canada that show WWF events for about $20 admission.

One of our locations in Houston has done this with the Rolling Rock Town Fair.
It wasnt real digital projection, but it was a sattelite broadcast.
It was taken from satellite and shown through a video projector onto the screen, and sold a whopping 30 tickets.
They did it again with a Mike Tyson fight, but I dont know how much it sold.
We did it again last summer with a Destinys Child concert that was broadcast at noon, VIDEOTAPED!!! and shown that night for two shows.
I think 6 people showed up for the first one and two tickets were sold for the second one, but they didnt show up.
Pretty lame I say.

Problem with this concept you hear hawked by the digital evangelists, that of the windfall profits to be gained by using digital projection systems for alternate program material during the "down times" is bogus. Why? Because they are called DOWN times for a reason -- people don't go out to theatres at 10am on a Monday morning. Doesn't matter what you are showing, viewing patterns don't change just because the system is video instead of film. The dead nights remain the dead nights and the prime nights remain the prime nights.... the unimaginably powerful draw of the WWF, Mike Tyson or Destiny's Bastard Child not withstanding.

At ShowEast, Boeing had a demonstration of live streaming of HD Video delivered by satellite and projected using a Christie DLP-Cinema projector. Had a live give-and-take bit between Boeing Digital's Frank Stirling and an actress in Hollywood, and video clips of a Julie Andrews play, Mardi Gras, boxing match, and Spanish-language soccer game. Afterward, I overheard theatre owners discussing the "prime time" conundrum, which is a real issue.
