I have given this lots of thought and have decided to form a non profit foundation for the purpose of opening up and operating a multi screen movie theater / stage house / film production company.

No really!

Anyone wish to be on the board of directors? You don't get paid.

Actually I figure that the foundation will be formed sometime in the next two months, and then the fund raising begins. That's the fun part.

I of course will act as Managing Director, and two others that I am in talks with will act in the same capacity.

Anyone who has some thought into this chime in with whatever.

Our goal is to put on more fun shows, maybe foriegn, classic, new, whatever, but with a more vaudevillian type of performance show before hand, for about 45 minutes, then a break, then the movie.

Also, the foundation would also produce documentaries, short subjects, and independant features.

So what ya think?

Go for it. Only one of two things will happen:

1. You will be successful.

Or:

2. You will fall flat on your rear end.

I wish you the best of luck. Members of the Board should be chosen from personnel in your area that can attend meetings.

Dave, it could be a fantastic idea, but it could use some focus. I know you are just brainstorming at this point, but it sounds like you are biting off a huge chunk right out of the gate. How about putting together a show of sorts and then doing a tour? Keep us, or at least me, posted. It sounds interesting.

Good luck with your efforts. Most non-profits choose members of the Board by their ability to raise funds or their willingness to make large personal financial contributions. You might want to keep that in mind as you make your selections.

The thought to extend an offer to join the board was merely an effort of thoughtfulness on my part.

There are currently three who will serve as members of the board, as required by law. These three, myself included, are specialist in thier particular field and will add necessary components to the structure.

There are six others that have yet to be approached. All of them are once again specialist in thier particular field, and the board of nine will comprise not only a good cross section of the community, but will fill the board with knowledgable individuals that will add to the project in many different ways.

We also will have a board of regents. The regents will be comprised of those that make larger than normal donations, the amount of which is yet to be determined. The regents will meet just as the directors and will have the ability to make certain rules and by laws, etc, and also be able to ask for resolutions or plans on certain issues, or direct the board to act in a certain way, etc. But all that is yet to be decided.

As for the success, this is actually in planning for the last year and a half. It is now reaching fruition to come to the first phase, formation of the foundation.

After that, then we actually get to start deciding WHAT to do, as far as running a show somewhere in a rented auditorium, leasing or purchasing a building, etc.

Time will tell on this. I will keep things posted here to let you know how it all goes. In the mean time, any suggestions are always welcome.

Dave,
Come on out to Delaware, Ohio. I have a 1916 vaudville movie house. www.thestrandtheatre.net . I love your idea, I am looking for grants to get my stage back in working order. My screen is fixed and cuts my stage 1/3 in front 2/3 in back. When I do get it restored that is exactly the kind of event that I would want

Best of Luck,
K!

I like that. We could have a third tier of "bored of directors", comprised of people who have to sit through bad movies. Well that would be just about everyone wouldn't it.
