The ad for Star Wars in tomorrow's LA TIMES...surprisingly only 4 columns (normally all studio films have a full-page (tabloid size) ad the Sunday before an opening.

It features a rather cheezy logo stating "Experience Star Wars the way it was meant to be seen! DIGITAL PROJECTION

Eight theatres listed: Grauman's Chinese (Hollywood), Pacific's The Grove (Beverly Hills, but actually the Fairfax District), Loew's Cineplex Century Plaza (Century City, due for demolotion after summer), AMC Santa Monica (SM), Loew's Cineplex Universal Studios (Universal City), Magic Johnson Theatres (Baldwin Hills), Pacific's Galleria (Sherman Oaks), Edwards (Irvine).

Outside of the big DIGITAL Box is listed a VERY lonely Mann Village Westwood (with an added "And at Theatres Everywhere!")

BTW, in the actual AD design, THX is listed right next to the three digital logos. Never seen that before for a theatre release.

For an Calendar section ad for a major movie opening this week, that was strange.

This kind of ad does not appear in the San Diego Union-Tribune...however, a local theatre chain took up the hype torch. For a few days now, the UltraStar chain has been inviting San Diegans to "Experience the Future of Cinema Today" and "see Star Wars II with the Only George Lucas approved Digital Projection" [sic] in "Pure Digital Cinema" when the movie is released.

FWIW, here is the U-T's slant on digital projection and SW:EPII. Note the less than total enthusiasm for d-cinema on the part of the author and the plug for film and those who handle it.
