I was just wondering what the average per person was for concessions at other theatres. Ours usually stays around $2.00 with just candy, pop, and popcorn, no nachos or pizza.

We have a 5-screen art house which are notorious for low concession per-caps. Ours is hovering around $1.65.

Ian,

I can't explain it, but Marin/Sonoma county is NOTORIOUS for low per capitas. I remember feeing proud that I brought Fairfax up from 1.20 to 1.80... when I hear some of the numbers coming out of theatres in other parts of the state/country... my head reels... (badum-bum)

Mine is also Gross, We are a 20 screen with a full kitchen (Chickeb tenders, mazi sticks, quesiidillas, shrimp, etc...) we would do a lot better if we were not in a mall with a foodcourt, as well as an italian restaurant, and a burger joint.

Your question is very subjective. Not only will a concession per cap vary as you move from region to region across the country, but it also depends on your theater's size.

A 20-plex has no difficulty maintaining a high per cap. A 4-plex will have more difficulty doing this. You start playing games like "can we sell enough tonight to cover payroll". Twins and singles play games like "not *another* night with zero concession sales!" This is where the salesmanship of the staff comes into play.

For smaller theaters, what you're playing and who your audience is more vital. The Evening Star will give you a 50-cent per cap, no matter what you do; where Scream will give you a $3+ per cap without even trying.

My per cap was for a one screen theatre, $2.00 is the average throughout the year, with some movies as low as $1.00 and some as high as $3.50. Was just wondering what other's per caps were.

Per capitas can vary from area to area, and from film to film. When we ran star wars, that film alone carried us into a 2.50 per cap. But average we ran 1.10. It was a discount house and in UTAH where the local religeous folks have so many kids that they can't afford the stuff we sell so they sneak it in.

Every monday was family night, so our percaps would drop to around .78 cents. PITIFUL. But our owner was sure I was stealing or something, so he never believed that it was just that we would get large groups of people, 12 to 20 on average, and none of them ever took a visit to the snack bar.
