The lord of the rings has just been classified as PG in the UK. With a running length of 178m 12s.

From www.bbfc.co.uk

THE LORD OF THE RINGS - THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING GIVEN A 'PG' RATING WITH CONSUMER ADVICE

The BBFC has given a 'PG' rating to The Lord of the Rings - the Fellowship of the Ring. The film's distributor, Entertainment Film Distributors Ltd, has agreed that all advertising and publicity for the film will carry the consumer advice that the film contains scenes which may not be suitable for children under eight years of age. The only other films to carry consumer advice on all publicity and advertising were Jurassic Park and The Lost World - Jurassic Park, both of which were 'PG'.

The Board considers that while the battle violence and fantasy horror in The Lord of the Rings is likely to be enjoyed by children over the age of eight, younger children could be frightened or disturbed. The Board considers that films given a 'PG' rating are unlikely to pose problems for most children over the age of eight, but parents can take younger children to see 'PG' films if they think they would enjoy them. The Lord of the Rings was not strong enough to take it into the '12' category, but it is at the top end of the 'PG' category, which is why it will carry the consumer advice.
