Expected: Monsters Inc. runs up an estimated $63.5M first weekend out.

Not expected: Huge nighttime business! At the Reading Cinemas in Manville NJ (New York metro), Monsters Inc. sold out the Saturday night 8 PM and 8:30 PM shows. Long ticket line and overfilled parking lot, too! All that opposite Game 6 of the World Series

How has it done on day and night shows in your town?

At Regal Hollywood 18 here in Huntsville at the 4:40 afternoon showing on Friday, the opening night, auditorium 18 (the one I was in) sold out (or came very very close to it). That is unusual for a 4:40 showing.

My theatre got 2 prints of this movie and it has done awesome. I must say it is about time that a movie came out that did more than $15 million opening weekend. Very strong crowds even through the 7:00 shows this evening.

We got five, and the first few shows Friday didnt quite fill up due to kids being in school and parents being at work, but in the evening, they were pretty full if not sold out, except for the last few shows.
From the time i got to work at 4 on Saturday till about 1100 the line at the box office stayed pretty long consistently.
Sunday was pretty full also until the evening when it began to die down.

Every show sold out. All weekend since Friday. Only two shows not sold out were these last two today Sunday night 9:40 and 10 pm. It was nuts.

My theater got three prints of it, and it went into our three largest houses: 381 seats, and two 559 seat houses. The one in the 381 seat house almost sold out every show this weekend, and the two 559 seat houses came close to it at times, but overall the turnout was a little disappointing. It was nice for a movie to make so much money in it's opening weekend.

Anybody disappointed at the shortness of the trailer for STAR WARS 2?
