From what I gather United Artists is not running The Curse of the Jade Scorpion -- at least not in the New York metro area.

This will hurt Woody Allen's newest picture in the outer boroughs (NYC outside Manhattan), Long Island and Westchester. The Hamptons are affected since UA has theaters out there.

Brad: Is this a chainwide ban or certain areas only?

I don't know anything more than the fact that the film is playing at UA theaters in Dallas.

Charles, I think UA will be the loser if this is correct, especially in the NY Area. This is Woody Allen's home town and his picture alway's have done well in the metropolitan area.

UA is no longer the powerhouse that they once thought they were.

DreamWorks has been getting into pissing matches with exhibitors over film rentals and such. How long before all the distributors start using the DreamWorks strong-arm aproach?

It's official per the ads in today's New York newspapers: No New York-area UA theaters are showing The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.

For those in the Hamptons, DreamWorks booked Jade Scorpion into a single-screen arthouse in Sag Harbor and the Cineplex Odeon (Loews) twin in Westhampton Beach. Yes, they still have single-screen theaters out on Long Island!

BTW, I was born in Southampton and have family near Sag Harbor.
