According to the Columbus Dispatch, Marcus Theatres has stopped showing IMAX films until at least the release of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and possibly permanently. Quite simply, they make more money from a conventional film than the IMAX films. Marcus has laid off its group sales staff.

I'm not surprised. There just isn't any decent product out there right now suitable for a commercial theatre. ALL ACCESS did very poorly. I had more than a few "private showings" at this IMAX theatre.

For details, go to this link (should be available until 8/21):

I always find it amusing that these theatre owners can't fathom why they don't make money. They blame the product, well this format has always been educational predominatley and they new that when they went into the market and no one has ever said there would be a large amount of comercial type films produced so they knew the risks. I am suprised if they don't get slapped with a lawsuite either since most of the rental contracts require that 80% of the screen time be large format not 35mm. I doubt Marcus is in a situation to plead chapter 11 in an attempt to wiggle out of there agreement like regal and edwards
