OK, we just tore down Memento last week, and don't get me wrong, but I loved the movie! I thought it was a real thriller!

But how many times did I end up explaining the ending to patrons as they left the theater confused?

This wasn't a wide release movie, so I'm sure many of you didn't have to go through this, but tell me: Have you ever had to explain the ending, or the entire movie to a waiting group of the confused?

p.s.- I know you have!

I hope that after I die, people will say of me: "That guy sure owed me a lot of money!"

Usually they want to check out their own perception of the ending. Like after Titanic, I had a lot of people ask me, "so did the old lady die at the end?" (My opinion is yes, she did, but I had a number of people disagree with me saying she just went to sleep and dreamed the ending.)

We ran Memento for a few weeks and it was not uncommon to have dicussions in the lobby lasting 45 minutes after the show was out. It took me two viewings to form an opinion, but I usually didn't share it -- I just let the customers battle it out. I thought it was one of the most brilliant films I'd seen in a long time, thus it was worth my time to linger a little later into the night to let discussions ramble. And yes, for stupid movies, I generally shoo people out pretty quickly. They can talk on the sidewalk where I don't have to become involved.

The worst that I could remember was the ending to the first Mission Impossible. I had to do a lot of explaining for that one.
