Regal has turned over its three New York City locations -- Battery Park City (Manhattan), Court Street (Brooklyn), Kaufman Astoria (Queens) -- to United Artists.

All three opened in the past 2 years to lots of hype. Battery Park City and Court Street have done poorly per press reports.

UA has also picked up a Regal location in New Jersey (Columbia Park) that opened in the same time frame.

Any hints on whether other Regals may end up with UA?

isn't united artists part of the phil what's his name who is gaining control of edwards along with some Regals. I do know that Cinemark has been aquireing regal theaters in texas. If this is true could it be a shift in revenues to a different company...who knows.

Bringing it back for an update.

That megaplex Regal was building in Staten Island (NYC)? It's been turned over to UA and opens for Harry Potter.

With this move Regal is now completely out of NYC.

I'm confused!! If this guy owns Regal and UA, why turn Regal theatres into UA theatres? What difference does it make?

But are they still separate companies?

Ken: UA and Regal are separate companies. However, UA is long established in NYC and Regal was a newcomer. UA also is more aggressive with upmarket/arthouse product.

Since no one else has brought it up, Loews Cineplex is now owned by Philip Anchwitz (sp) and oaktree Capital Management

Sean: The Anschutz Cos. and Oaktree Capital are not involved with Loews. Canada-based Onex Corp. controls Loews AFAIK.
